Trafford Centre (UK) Store Construction Thanks to Ian for these photos and a mall map of the future Trafford Centre (Manchester, UK) Apple store, as of Sept. 21, 2005. The front of the store is covered with black plywood, between Clintons Cards on one side, and Dolcis on the other. Ian describes the latter as a "quite low-level" shoe store. He notes that two stores already sell Apple products in the mall: anchor Selfridges & Co. at one end of the mall, and a new John Lewis store that has a "major" Apple department. Apple's store is right between these two stores. Notice the woodwork above the black plywood-it features a medallion with the "146" space number with gold-colored paint, and some elaborate cornice-like overhang, and the very decorative cornice brackets. How will Apple's stainless steel façade match this design?
Note the gold-painted, decorative pilaster just in front of the black plywood--it's part of the elaborate wood-themed architecture of the mall.
The future Apple store is between a card shop and shoe store. Both Selfridges and John Lewis already sell Apple products--and the Apple store is right in between. |
