SF Grand Opening Waiting Line

As you can tell from this map and photos, the waiting line started at 9 p.m. on Thursday evening, then slowly grew
through Friday morning and afternoon, until there was a core overnight group of about 120 at the corner of
Stockton St. and O'Farrell St. Some very late arrivals extended the line, but basically the O'Farrell St. block was
filled by persons arriving around 6 a.m. When the sun started rising at 6:43 a.m. more people began arriving, and
filled out Powell St. By 9 a.m. the crowd was swelling quickly back down Ellis St., and then looped around back
down Market St. By the way, this line was not randomly formed, but instructed and guided by Apple's own security
team, and private-hired security guards, all with the intent not to block any businesses (especially the Ellis-O'Farrell
Garage), and the streets.

Thanks to Vinh for sending these three photos showing the length of the waiting line at various times---very clever!

The above photo show the start of the waiting line for the grand opening--the first two arrived at 9 p.m. on Thursday night.
