Princesshay (UK) Drawings

A set of architectural drawings posted by the city of Exeter (UK) Planning Department provides a rare look at the lay-out of an Apple store, and also confirms that the Princesshay store will be a two-level store.

The drawings were filed in July 2007 by Gensler, Apple's architect on the project. They show that the store will have a traditional design on the first and second levels, linked by a glass staircase. The store will also have a large storage and office area on the second floor, occupying the space over the adjacent retailer.

Download (pdf) the the various drawings, with measurements in both millimeters and feet:

  • the 2-page permit application
  • drawing of the Princesshay development. The Apple store is at "SU10" on Princesshay, northeast of Princesshay/Bampfylde Lane (zoom in far enough and you'll see a comment box over the store location).
  • plan/overhead view of the store's two levels. The office/work areas are over the adjacent Oasis store, as shown in the photo below. The storage area will use special rolling shelves to maximize the use of space (check here for a photo of the same shelving at the Yorkdale [Toronto] retail store).
