Apple Stores by Number
To administratively track each individual store as a project, Apple assigns each store a unique number in the format Rxxx. The numbers started with R001 and are now nearing R300. They are apparently assigned at the moment that a store moves from the "wishlist" onto the "real list." This usually occurs at some after site scouting, but before lease negotiations. You can see that not all numbers have been used over the years, and that some numbers are yet unknown. Check my store chronology for more information.
