A May 2004 story by AppleInsider said that internal Apple documents revealed 27 prospective retail store locations in Japan, and
listed them in four priorities A-D. It's possible this document was research material only, and not intended as a final list of sites
for future stores. But based on that story, here is the list of potential Japan retail store locations by city and prefecture:
A - all are street stores except Umeda
- Ginza (opened Nov. 2003)
- Osaka, Shinshaibashi (will open Nov. 2004)
- Shinjuku, Tokyo
- Shibuya, Tokyo
- Umeda (shopping center)
- Osaka
- Harajuku/Omotesando, Tokyo
B - all 4,000 square feet, four are shopping centers, Ikebukuro and Machida are street stores, while Tachikawa is neither.

- Yokohama, Kanagawa
- Nagoya, Aichi
- Sapporo, Hokkaido

C - all 4,000 square feet, all shopping centers except Omiya and Kobe.
