  • 6th Street - Austin (TX) - On March 8, 2011 press reported that Apple would open a temporary, "pop-up" store at 101 W. 6th St. in the downtown district, to coincide with the 2-week, annual South by Southwest (SXSW) Music and Arts Festival. Apple reportedly closed a lease on the store on Sunday, and after just five days of construction, the store opened on March 11th, coincident with the debut of the iPad 2. updated
  1. Altmarkt-Galerie - Dresden (Germany) - A 2002 vintage, indoor, 4-level mall with 200 stores in 473,000 s.f., located in city center. The mall was expanded in 2010 with 90 additional stores, office space and a hotel covering 193,000 s.f. Job listing posted Oct. 6, 2010, and construction spotted on the lower level in space #25. Features a unique curved entrance with step-up stone floor and stainless steel framing. Grand opening March 31, 2011, breaking a record of 138 days between store grand openings. [mall plan] updated
  2. Saint-Catherine - Bordeaux (France) - A port city of about 1 million residents in southwest France. In May 2010 tipsters told MacBidouille that Apple has leased a former banking location at the very busy and conspicuous corner of Rue St. Catherine and Place de la Comedie. The site is along a pedestrian mall and not far from the city's Grand Theater and busy plazas. The 4-level building features a very tall first level, suggesting Apple's typical mezzanine design could be installed in the space.   3. La Part Dieu (Lyon, France) - In Oct. 2009 MacGeneration reported Apple would open a store in Lyon, possibly in 2010. In early Feb. 2010 MacGeneration confirmed the store will be at La Part Dieu, a 230-store, 806,000 s.f. city-center retail development adjacent to the city's rail station.   4. The Oracle - Reading (UK) - A mid-town shopping center 40 miles west of London with 775,000 s.f. of retail space in 120 shops, anchored by Debenhams, House of Fraser and Boots, along with 90 other retailers. It features an 880-foot riverside promenade on the River Kennet, with 25 restaurants, cafes and bars with outdoor seating, accompanied by a 10-screen cinema. Reportedly in former spaces of Dolcis, Envy and Faith stores on the upper level. Job listings were originally posted May 3, 2007 but then disappeared.   5. Fiordaliso - Rozzano (Italy) - In Jan. 2011 a job listing appeared for this northern city, but with no details on an exact location. However, setteB.it reported the store will be at this 710,000 s.f. mall in a southern suburb of Milan with 137 stores and restaurants after an expansion in 2010. Grand opening July 2, 2011.   6. Valencia Town Center - Valencia (CA) - A 1.1 million s.f. mall operated by Westfield along I-5 in the Santa Clarita Valley 30 miles north of LA. Has 199 shops, and completed a $140 million renovation in Nov. 2010 adding 40 spaces in an outdoor Shops on the Patio format. Job listings posted Feb. 21, 2011. Grand opening July 16, 2011.   7. Westfield Penrith - Penrith, Australia - In Feb. 2011 job listings appeared for a store inside this 2-level mall about 35 miles west of city-center Sydney. The mall was built in 1971, then expanded and renovated in 2005. It has 349 retailers in 995,000 s.f. Store in triple-wide spaces 288-291 on the second level. Grand opening July 23, 2011.   8. The Americana at Brand - Glendale (CA) - In late April 2011 a tipster said that an Apple store would open in this Main Street-style mall, just 600 feet from the existing store. Other tipsters said the existing store would not close, but that this store would become a "sister" location to the #2 store in the chain. The store will be located in space #877, formerly the Ruehl store, occupying 13,966 s.f. in a huge 110' x 50' x 25' space. The grand opening was July 30, 2011 as the second store in Glendale.   9. Westfield Southland - Melbourne (Australia) - In late April 2011 a job listing appeared for this huge, 1.3 million s.f. mall south of city center. The mall has nearly 360 retailers, a cinema and several restaurants. As of its grand opening, the store is the most south in the chain (38°S.). Grand opening August 13, 2011.
  10. I Gili - Florence (Italy) - In Jan. 2011 a job listing appeared for this historic northern city, but with no details on an exact location other than city center. However, in May 2011 an Italian Web site spotted a black construction barricade IFO the former Mondadori store at the Centro Commerciale I Gigli shopping mall. The mall has 731,000 s.f. and 115 shops. The store will face a large, circular courtyard. Grand opening August 13, 2011. [May news story] [mall plan]
  11. Conestoga Mall - Waterloo (Ont.), Canada - In Jan. 2011 a black construction barricade appeared in front of space #138, the former Fairweather women's clothing store (46' wide, 4,537 s.f), and also part of the Le Chateau store next door (which renovated within the last year itself). Ivanhoe Cambridge has recently renovated and expanded the single-level mall to 656,000 s.f. with 120 shops and 7 anchors. Grand opening August 13, 2011.   12. Fashion Place - Murray (UT) - A General Growth mall near I-15 south of Salt Lake City. It draws visitors from a wide, an affluent area (avg. HH income $76,098), and is near the Univ. of Utah. The mall has 880,000 s.f. and has been renovated twice, expanded once, and a future upgrade will add even more space. In Nov. 2010 rumors of the location were confirmed.   13. Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall - Anchorage (Alaska) - In Jan. 2011 tipsters pointed to the Fifth Avenue Mall operated by Simon as a future store location, possible in the space on the second level near the skybridge to Nordstrom that Eddie Bauer vacates on Feb. 1, 2011 (they'll move downstairs). The 1987-era mall serves a region of 360,000 residents with 446,000 s.f. on five levels. As of its grand opening, the store is the most north store in the chain (61°N.).   14. Parquesur (Leganés, Spain) - In late Feb. 2011 job listings appeared for this location, a 1.6 million s.f. mall with 230 shops, among the largest in Europe. The mall is located in a small suburb southwest of downtown Madrid. Grand opening August 20, 2011.. [Aug. barricade]
  15. Festival Place - Basingstoke (UK) - A city center mall built in 2002 about 50 miles southwest of London, with 1.1. million s.f. and 165 shops. In late March 2011 job listings were posted, indicating an Oct. 2011 grand opening. Construction underway on the second level, spaces 65-66. Grand opening Aug. 20, 2011.   16. 4th Street - Berkeley (CA) - In Oct. 2010 a local Web site reported Apple was talking to city officials about a building at 1823 Fourth St., a busy 2-block section in the west part of the city. On Nov. 18th Apple filed a building permit application to remodel the 1-level building, taking out the mezzanine, adding a partial second floor, and expanding the current set-back ground level out to the sidewalk, for a total of 7,617 s.f. Construction began the week of Jan. 18th with erection of a black construction barricade, demolition of the interior concrete floor and general gutting of the interior. Grand opening August 20, 2011.   17. Carré Sénart - Lieusant (France) - In early Feb. 4 a tipster pointed to this two-level mall with 130 shops 30 milies south of Paris. The mall is operated by Unibail-Rodamco, the same company that operates the Carrousel du Louvre mall where Apple has located. Unknown exact location within the mall. Job listings posted mid-February.   18. Northlake Mall - Charlotte (NC) - On May 21, 2011 a job listing appeared for a new store in this city, which already has a store at SouthPark. No location was mentioned in the listing, but sources located a building permit that identified this 1 million s.f. mall as this mall near I-485 and I-77 north of the city. The permit listed the construction cost as $1.77 million, substanially more than usual. The mall has 150 retailers and multi-screen cinema. The store will be in space #280, the former Arden B women's clothing store on the second level, and could incorporate space to the right side.   19. Promenade at Chenal - Little Rock (AR) - A 330,000 square-foot, open-air lifestyle center built by RED Development on the city's west side. The architecture is French gothic, and the tenant list includes common Apple neighbors. Mall opened Spring 2008. Tenant list was posted May 2007 with "Apple" listed. In Nov. 2007 Apple filed for a plumbing permit on a 4,570 s.f. space, indicating construction could soon be underway. Job listings posted Jan. 8, 2008. But in May, 2008 tipster says that Apple has not signed a lease and were looking at other locations. By April 2010 local tipsters said this appears to be a dead location. However, in late Oct. 2010 a report in Arkansas Business said the project is again on-track, and that a lease would be signed soon. In March 2011 local press again said Apple will be a future tenant, possibly in fall 2011. Finally, on March 25, 2011 job listings were posted. Grand opening Aug. 27, 2011.   20. City-Galerie Augsburg (Germany) - This city of 260,000 residents is in the south of Germany, about 40 miles northwest of the existing Munich store. A job listing appeared on March 30, 2011, but without any specific location. In July, the listing was changed to confirm this 430,000 s.f. shopping mall in city center (Willy Brandt Platz 1), with 105 shops, restaurants, cinema and other attractions.   21. Campania - Naples (Italy) - In April 2011 a job listing link appeared on the Italy job Web site for this city on the southern coast, without any specific location. However, the link was not active until May 25th. Later a construction barricade appeared inside the 1.5 million s.f. Centro Commerciale Campania mall about 18 miles north of the city.   22. Mapleview Centre - Burlington (Canada) - A 2-level Ivanhoe Cambridge-operated mall with 625,000 s.f. and 154 shops at the western shore of Lake Ontario, and not far from Niagara Falls. The mall was renovated in early 2010. Unknown space within the mall, but either BB33/223, formerly Jacob (relocating) or AA37/216, formerly Dynamite. Job listings posted Feb. 21, 2011.   23. Stratford City - London (UK) - An enormous shopping development under construction adjacent to the future 2012 Olympic Village and stadium in eastern London. At 1.9 million s.f., developer Westfield bills it as "the largest urban shopping centre in Europe," with huge anchor tenants It's located at a major highway and rail crossroads, and will have pedestrian connections in all directions, including to the Olympic venues, offices, entertainment venues, apartments, hotels and parks. Via Rizzoli - Bologna (Italy) - In Nov. 2010 a newspaper reported Apple will occupy two levels in city center an historic corner building (Casa Commerciale Barilli, 1906-07)) at Via Francesco Rizzoli 16 that Apple is upgrading and renovating. It has about 5,300 s.f. with offices and meetings rooms on level three. Renoveation began in Dec. 2010, and was in-progress through Feb. 2011.   25. Jungfernstieg - Hamburg - In Dec. 2009 the German newspaper Die Welt said Apple intends to open a high-profile store in the city center of this city. In April 2010 the newspaper Abendblatt says the store could appear at 12 Jungfernstieg, site of the country's oldest jewlery store, Brahmfeld & Gutruf, founded in 1834. The location is across a wide roadway from the Binnenalster, a lake formed from the former Alster River, and now a recreational and marina area. The jewelry store closed May 29th, and construction began in early 2011. On May 1st a 50-foot wide black construction barricade covered the storefront. Job listings posted Feb. 28, 2011.   26. Braehead Shopping Centre - Glasgow (Scotland) - A 1 million s.f. mall along the River Clyde about 15 min. northwest of city centre. Has 110 shops anchored by a Marks & Spencer and enormous Ikea. Unknown space, but possibly the former Gap store in spaces #8-9. Grand opening Sept. 17, 2011. [barricade #1 / #2 / #3]
  27. Cielo Vista Mall - El Paso (TX) - In late Oct. 2010 a tipster pointed to this city as the eventual location for a store, but it wasn't until mid-June 2011 that it was confirmed. The mall covers 1.2 million s.f. on two indoor levels with 140 shops along I-10 east of downtown. The trade area's average household income is among the three lowest in the chain. But international sales possibilities are high, and the city is among the four Experian top-ranked without an Apple store. Probably located in space E10 (former Coldwater Creek) on the ground level.   28. Nanjing East- Shanghai (China) - In Sept. 2010 real estate sources pointed to this new 22-story Henderson Metropolitan building at 155 Nanjing East Road as the future home for an Apple store, along the city's main shopping street, and within blocks of the famous The Bund, a wide avenue of historic buildings that is a major tourist attraction.   29. Hornsby - Hornsby (Australia) - In mid-June 2011 a job listing appeared for this mall in the city about 17 miles northwest of Sydney. The mall was created from the merger of two malls in the 1980s, and has 335 retailers, a cinema and restaurant row in 1 million s.f. Grand opening Sept. 24, 2011.   30. IFC Mall - Hong Kong (China) - This city has been a glaring omission since the first Apple store opened, and only in 2010 did Apple's Ron Johnson confirm during the Pudong (Shanghai) grand opening that a store would appear here. In Feb. 2011 Vinko.com reported that Apple will occupy the IFC Mall in the central district, two levels in spaces #1100-1103, and #2091-2095. Two days later the South China Morning Post confirmed the IFC location and one at Hysan Place. Lower level enclosed with one entrance on the mall side, glass windows to outside.   31. Centro Sicilia - Catania (Italy) - This city of 300,000 is on the eastern coast of Sicily, at the foot of volcanic Mount Etna. Job listings were posted in late Feb. 2011 but without a specific location. The store is inside the Centro Commerciale Centro Sicilia. Grand opening Sept. 24, 2011. updated
  32. Parly 2 - Le Chesnay (France) - In early Feb. 2011 MacGeneration spotted a listing to indicate a future store in this city west of Paris and near Versailles. The mall operated by Unibail-Rodamco has 188 shops in 1.1 million s.f. Grand opening Sept. 24, 2011.
  33. New Haven (CT) - In late April 2011 a job listing appeared for a future store in this city, with a ZIP Code that includes the downtown district and Yale University. Within a month local reporters confirmed the store would be within a renovated space at the Yale University bookstore. The state is the fourth-wealthiest in the country, and Yale is considered among the most prestigious universities in the world. The space will include the basement and ground floor.   34. MetroTown - Burnaby, BC Canada - In April 2011 a job listing appeared for this mall about 8 miles southeast of Vancouver city center and the existing Pacific Centre Apple store. The enormous, 1.7 million s.f. Ivanhoe Cambridge mall is the country's second largest, and has 450 retailers over three levels. In early August a tipster located the black construction barricade on the upper level, to the right of Armani Exchange, in the former Smart Set space. Grand opening Sept. 24, 2011.   • Greene Street - New York City (NY) - In late July 2011 sources pointed to the 1893-era, ornate and architecturally-significant building at 72 Greene St. as the temporary location for the SoHo store while it's being expanded over the next 9-12 months.. The new building is just 1½ blocks south of the SoHo store. Apple will occupy the cellar, ground and second levels, with upper floors remaining apartments. The project will cost nearly $1.4 million.     1. MTZ - (Main-Taunus-Zentrum) - Sulzbach (Germany) - In July 2010 several German Web sites pointed to this 1964-vintage mall 15 minutes northwest of city center Frankfurt along the A66 highway. It has about 1.2 million s.f. with 170 shops. The Apple store will be in the northern section of the new expansion space that opens the same day as the Apple store. Job listings were posted July 15, 2011. Grand opening November 17, 2011.
    2. La Cañada - Marbella (Spain) - In early May 2011 a job listing appeared for this shopping mall in this busy seaside tourist town (pop. 135,000) about 65 miles from the Straits of Gibraltar. The city is along the Costa del Sol, which attracts visitors from around the world, but particularly the UK, Germany and France. Marbella also hosts celebrities who visit and reside here, and it's the subject of many films and TV shows. The mall has 150 shops, a large supermarket, a bowling alley, fitness gym and multi-screen cinema. Apple will reportedly occupy the former Habitat space, which is closing down.     3. Callé Colon (Valencia, Spain) - In Jan. 2010 real estate sources told ABC.es that Apple would open a retail store at 25 Carrer de Cristóbal Colon in city center, across from the large El Corte Inglés department store. Apple's architects are reportedly obtaining permits to renovate and upgrade the historic apartment building designed by noted Spanish architect Lucas Garcia Cardona in 1889. The building is set on the corner of an angled intersection, providing the building with great exposure. The buildling features wrought-iron balconies, masonry details and a upper-level "viewing room." The sources say the store will open in 2010, making it the first Apple store in Spain. In May 2010 news accounts said city officials just approved construction permits, balancing the building's heritage and Apple's plans. In Feb. 2011 a local newspaper said renovation of the building would finish in late March–early April. After that, Apple would install its retail store. Grand opening Dec. 3, 2011.     4. Grand Central - New York City - In early Feb. 2011 The New York Observer reported Apple was interested in retail space inside the transportation station. The historic building dates to 1871 and has 68 retail spaces (most under 1,000 s.f.) and 35 restaurants. In mid-Feb. tipsters said the store would be Apple's largest, and might be located on the mezzanine level, although finding 30,000+ s.f. seems to be difficult. Within weeks it was explained Apple would have to bid against others to occupy the space. In late May the Wall Street Journal said Apple was still interested in the space. On July 20, 2011 the NY Times said Apple submitted a retail proposal to the MTA, and it could be approved the next week. On July 23rd the NY Post said the deal had been inked: $800,000 for the first 10 years, over $1 million after that, for the east and northeast balconies.     5. Amsterdam - Amsterdam (The Netherlands) - In Nov. 2010 multiple sources told One More Thing that Apple would occupy the ground floor and mezzanine of the 1909-era Hirsch Building at Leidseplein 25 in this capital city. Apple Benelux offices already occupy the upper floors. The building overlooks a major plaza and the city's tram line runs in front of the building. The interior is now used as a temporary art gallery, and resembles the Opéra (Paris) space. In April 2011 OneMoreThing located permit applications for the store, indicating the city historic commission has objections to Apple's proposed renovations. Has a Briefing Room.     6. Highland Village - Houston (TX) - In July 2010 a tipster pointed to this relatively small mall southwest of downtown and near I-610, and about one mile from the existing Houston Galleria store. It includes several upscale retailers. The space is the former Harold Powell clothing store, directly east of the new Sprinkles Cupcakes store, and will bear some resemblance to the Scottsdale Quarter store. Store construction was underway in late 2010, and by April 2011, it turned into a nearly-complete demolition of the building (which seems to be a change from the original plans to use the former building). The store will be a twin to the Upper West Side (NYC) store, with stone walls, two tall glass storefronts and a vaulted glass roof. Covers 9,000 s.f., with 5,670 s.f. retail (ground-level), and 3,510 s.f. for a Briefing room and back-of-house on second level of adjacent building. Has a Briefing Room in adjacent building.     7. Confluence - Lyon (France) - An enormous 350-acre urban project at the confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers, which will include residential, office, open space, waterways, public buildings, and retail developments (1.3 million s.f.). Over 25 years, the development is intended to extend and improve the city-center with new urban concepts. The store will be at 112 Cours Charlemagne in a huge, 2-level retail and entertainment building managed by Unibail-Rodamco, and alongside a mooring basin that lends a water theme to the location.     8. Galleria Porta di Roma (Rome, Italy) - A black construction barricade was spotted in late 2011 at this development north of city center, which will eventually encompass office space, apartments and a shopping center over 370 acres. The retail area opened in 2007 with 220 shops. The Apple store is located on the ground floor in spaces #34-35 next to Benetton. Grand opening April 21, 2012. [mall brochure, pdf] [mall plan]
    9. Gran Plaza 2 - Madrid (Spain) - In late Feb. 2012 a local Web site said that Madrid store employees confirmed a store would open inside this new mall northwest of the city. The 2-level, 613,000 s.f. mall is operated by LSGI and has 143 shops. Tipsters say the store will occupy A34/A35. Grand opening April 27, 2012. [mall plan]
    10. Nueva Condomina- Murcia (Spain) - The town of 450,000 is on the southeast coast, about two hours south of the existing Callé Colon (Valencia) store. Initial job listings did not name the mall, but tipsters filled in the information --inside the Nueva Condomina shopping mall north of city center, in spaces 55 and 56 on the upper level.     11. Les Quatre Temps - Paris - In early April, 2008 a news account told of the renovation of this 4-level shopping development adjacent to La Défense, an office and tourist area northwest of the Arc de Triomphe. In the account, the reporter mentions that Apple may (will?) come to the center. The development is being aimed at both office workers and tourists during the day, but also trying to create after-hours and weekend traffic with a cinema and restaurants. On March 2, 2012 MacGeneration reported the trademark black construction barricade was up in front of the former Go Sport space next to The Gap.     12. Masonville Place - In Dec. 2011 a tipster pointed to the 6,176 s.f. space being vacated by Eddie Bauer on the upper level as a future store. The Cadillac-Fairview mall has 180 retailers in 686,000 s.f., and is about equidistant from Apple stores in Detroit and Toronto. Job listings posted Jan. 18, 2012, and black construction barricade visible mid-February. The store is 7,302 s.f. on the upper level, and there is a separate but nearby 840 s.f. employee break room.     13. Broadway - Sydney (Australia) - In early June 2011 an alert tipsters spotted building permit applications for spaces 304-305-306-307 (75' wide x 50' deep or 5,360 s.f.) on the third level of this the Broadway Shopping Mall at 1/21 Bay Street, just 2 miles southwest of the existing George Street store. The initial project costs $214,000 and cover only certain structural changes, not the store fit-out. The 536,000 s.f. mall has 142 retailers, a young visitor demographic and low tenant turnover.     14. Ridge Hill (NY) - In early March 2012 a job listing appeared for this city north of New York City, but without referring to a specific location. On May 31, 2012 the listing was changed to indicate this shopping mall along I-87, part of an 81-acre mixed-use development in a very upscale county and locality.     15. CoolSprings Galleria - Franklin (Tenn.) - In mid-Jan. 2012 a local Web site said Apple would occupy the former Abercrombie and Brooks Brothers stores, space #1585 with about 8,208 s.f. Building permits state the fit-out cost at $1.6 million. The mall is operated by CBL & Assoc., and has 220 stores along I-65 south of Nashville. Grand opening June 30, 2012.     16. Passeig de Gràcia - Barcelona (Spain) - In May 2010 Fortune magazine pointed to Passeig de Gràcia 36, a 32,000 s.f., 5-story older building near the Mandarin Oriental hotel. The publication said that Apple had submitted an offer to building owner Cushman & Wakefield, but was in competition with retailer Mango (owned by Isac Andika). But in Sept. 2010 La Vanguardia pointed to #1 on the same street, saying Apple had signed a 10-year lease for $5.1 million a year for 27,000 s.f., including basement, ground floor (21-foot ceilings, (about 75-feet deep, 60 feet wide) and second level (about about 95-feet deep and 60-feet wide with 20-foot by 40-foot opening to first level). The building dates to the late 1800s, and the corner space looks over Catalunya Plaza. In Nov. a news story said Apple has signed a 10-year lease at $5.1 million a year for two levels and a mezzanine space.     17. Halifax Shopping Centre (Nova Scotia, Canada) - In Dec. 2011 rumors began floating about an Apple store here. Then in early Jan. 2012 the allNovaScotia.com Web site confirmed the store, with construction starting in mid-Nov. 2011 near the Sears store.     18. Coquitlam Centre - Couquitlam (Canada) - A 1979-vintage mall that was expanded to 913,000 s.f. in 2001, now with 200 shops on 2 levels in an far-east suburb of Vancouver. Job listing posted Feb. 23, 2012. Grand opening August 18, 2012.
    19. Carindale - Carindale (Australia) - A regional Westfield mall southeast of Brisbane city center with 298 shops in 1.2 million s.f. The Rebel Sport store is moving to another location in Oct. 2010, and tipsters say Apple is assuming their lease at space MM11 on the ground level. The mall is on the verge of an extensive expansion and renovation that will finish in 2012, including the area where Rebel Sport is located. The future store would be about 10 miles south of the existing Chermside store. In late March 2012 a job listing appeared for "South-East Brisbane," but tipsters confirmed Carindale as the location.     20. Rhein Center - Cologne (Germany) - This city of 1 million residents is in the west-central region of the country, with another 9 million metro residents. A job listing appeared in late March 2012, but without a specific store location. In May 2012 a black construction barricade appeared at Rhein-Center, Köln, on the second level, covering two spaces.     21. Canberra Centre - Canberra (Australia) - The country's capitol city is inland in the southeast region of the country, and has 345,000 residents. A job listing appeared in late March 2012, but without a specific location, but locals believe this mall is the spot. Garden City Shopping Centre - Booragoon (Australia) - In Feb. 2012 a job listing appeared for this city as "South Perth," across the Swan River from city-center Perth, but without a more specific location.     23. Bayshore Shopping Centre - Ottawa (Canada) - In March 2012 a black construction barricade appeared around a corner space on the lower level of this Ivanhoé Cambrige mall with 150 retailers in 746,000 s.f. would host an Apple store. The space spans the former Gap Kids and vacant space to the left (64'x135', 8,290 s.f.) almost across from Banana Republic. City permits say 6,781 s.f. and fit-out will cost C$1 million.     24. Täby Centrum - Taby (Sweden) - In Nov. 2011 Apple filed legal papers to legally operate retail stores in the country. By the end of Nov. tipsters were pointing to Hamngatan 15 in city center as a possible site for the store.     25. Strasbourg - Strasbourg (France) - In June 2010 a tipster said Apple Europe posted a recruiting event notice for this city, but with no location. In Jan. 2010 a tipster noticed construction on #31 Place Kléber facing the town square.     26. The Harlequin - Watford (UK) - A job listing appeared March 29, 2012 for this city-center shopping mall with 140 shops. Local media report the store will occupy three spaces on the upper level. Grand opening Sept. 15, 2012.
    27. Rio Shopping Centre - Valladolid (Spain) - This city of 313,000 residents is in the northwest part of the country. The city's main shopping street is Calle de Santiago, but a store could also be located within a mall. A job listing appeared in late March 2012, but without a specific store location.     28. Sindelfingen -Stuttgart (Germany) - This city of 500,000 has a metro population of 5.3 million in the southwest region of the country. A job listing appeared for the city in late March 2012, but without a specific store location.     29. Toison d'Or - Dijon (France) - In late March 2012 a job listing appeared for this city of 105,000 residents in the east-central part of the country. No specific location was listed, but speculation was that it would be located within the Centro Commerciale Toison d'Or shopping mall on the city's north side, which has 125 shops.     30. Valley Plaza - Bakersfield (Calif.) - This city of 350,000 residents is in the agricultural central valley of the state. In late April 2012 a job listing appeared for the city, but without a specific location. However, visitors to the Valley Plaza shopping center along SR-99 identified it as the future location.     31. Il Leone - Lonato (Italy) - This suburb of Brescia (pop. 200,000) is in the most-northern province of the country. A job listing appeared for the city in late March 2012, but without a specific store location. Tipsters later spotted a black construction barricade at the Il Leone shopping center, upper level, south side.     32. Festival Walk (Hong Kong, China) - This 6-level mall has 980,000 s.f. of retail space in the north section of Tsim Sha Tsui. In late March 2012 the Hong Kong Economic Times said Apple would open a 15,000 s.f. store here, with a rent of $482,000 a month. In mid-May a tipster noted that early construction was underway on three combined spaces on level LG1 (HSBC, Agnes B., Izzue) for the new store, behind a non-descript construction barricade. The three former retailers are relocating to other spaces within the mall. The store is L-shaped, to the left-rear.     33. The Glades - Bromley (UK) - In February 2012 a job listing appeared for this location and described only as "Greater London," later "Bromley."     34. Puerto Venecia - Zaragosa (Spain) - A job listing appeared in April 2012 for this locality, but without a specific location or mall. It was not until the grand opening was announced was the location revealed as this shopping center with 893,000 s.f. of retail space and several water-based adventure attractions. Grand opening Oct. 4, 2012, a Thursday.
    35. Via Roma (Torino, Italy) - In Jan. 2012 a job listing appeared for a store in this northern city, separate from the existing Le Gru location. The two-level store is located in the shopping arcade on Via Roma 80, in the former Mondadori bookstore. Construction scaffolding went up Feb. 22, 2012. Grand opening Oct. 13, 2012.
    36. Val d'Europe - (Marne-la-Vallée, France) This retail center is in the midst of a large circular region that is Disneyland Paris, and officially is the combination of five communities to create the town o Marne-la-Vallée. In May 2012 a job listing appeared for "East Paris" but without a specific location. Tipsters later pointed to this mall as the site, but without a specific location. On July 10, 2012 Apple officially filed to operate a business at the mall. Black construction barricade is up in August 2012 to the left of the Gap store in the La Promenade section of the mall.     37. Wangfujing Street - Beijing (China) - This mile-long, pedestrian-only street in city center is an historic and major shopping district for the city. In Aug. 2012 tipsters confirmed a future Apple store, but did not provide a specific location. In early Oct. M.I.C. Gadget had photos of the store on a corner location, with tall, curved glass windows on the outside, and a curved, sweeping glass wall on the inside facing the shopping mall. The store opened as the largest Apple store in Asia, with a basement, ground floor and second-floor, linked by a 3-level spiral glass staircase. The Genius Bar is wrap-around, similar to the IFC Mall (Hong Kong) store. Staffed by 300 employees. Grand opening Oct. 20, 2012.
    • Palo Alto 2 - Relocation of existing store - Palo Alto (CA) - In Oct. 2009 Apple's architects submitted planning documents to the city of Palo Alto for a new store at 340 University, about 2 blocks east of the current location, in a 9,250 s.f. parcel formerly occupied by Z Gallerie (and even earlier, the first location of Mrs. Fields Cookies, and before that the historic Liddicoat's International Foods & Cocktails / photo #1 / #2). The first design proposal submitted to the city featured an all-glass storefront, mezzanine, two skylights, basement and three interior trees. In summer 2010 a new "For Lease" signs appeared in the windows of the space, and there were no active construction permits on-file with the city. In Jan. 2011 a second proposal was submitted to demolish (except the exterior heritage walls) and re-build a 16,600 s.f. store, with an design that mimics Upper West Side (NYC) store and future Third Street Promenade (S. Calif.) store. Demolition of the existing building began in Feb. 2012, and on April 2nd foundation construction was underway. Internally, the main retail floor is called the "Great Hall." There is a Briefing Room at the rear of the store. The Genius Bar is set away from the rear wall far enough to allow 360-degree customer/employee access.     2. Atlantis - Saint-Herblain/Nantes (France) - In mid-2012 a job listing appeared for this mall with 120 stores northwest of city center. Grand opening Nov 15, 2012.
    • City Creek Center - Relocation of existing store - Salt Lake City (Utah) - A 23-acre downtown development by Taubman and LDS Church that includes offices, residential and 760,000 s.f. of retail space. Northstrom and Macy's have committed to leases, with some retail set to open March 22, 2012. In Nov. 2011 a tipster pointed to this location, but had no details on exactly where in the future mall the store would be located. In Feb. 2012 tipsters said the existing The Gateway store west of downtown would move to this center. In May 2012 an ABC4 TV reporter confirmed with two sources that Apple will occupy City Creek, and would get 5 years free rent as incentive. A week later ABC4 confirmed The Gateway store will eventually close. The location has been confirmed as next to Sephora in the west section. In July 2012 the city issued building permits (pdf) for the project in space 214 (although a source says its space #210). On Nov. 14, 2012 The Gateway store nearby closed at the end of business.     1. Willow Grove Park - Willow Grove (Penn.) - In April 2012 a tipster pointed to this 1.2 million s.f. mall north of Philadelphia as a future store location. The mall is owned by P.R.E.I.T. and serves a large, upscale area about 15 miles east of the existing King of Prussia Apple store. The store occupies 8,400 s.f. with a floating Genius Bar.     2. Micx Chengdu - (China) - In July 2011 a China business news site reported this city of 14 million residents in the middle of China will host two Apple stores, at the MIXC development opening in 2012 and at the Raffles Square development that was completed last year. There were no details on locations within the malls or when the Apple stores might open. Causeway Bay - Hong Kong (China) - In Feb. 2011 a blog speculated the store could eventually be within a 15-level retail space at Hysan Place at 500 Hennessy Road, an enormous project in Causeway Bay that is still under construction. Two days later the South China Morning Post confirmed the Hysan and another at IFC. The building officially opened August 10th, but without an Apple store. Construction continued on the a three-level, 15,000 s.f. space until the grand opening Dec. 15, 2012. The storefront is 110' wide, and the ground floor retail space is 55' deep. The other two levels are similarly sized, not including a stairway and large back-of-house spaces. The glass panels (10x) are 40 feet tall, and there are two shorter panels over the door.     4. Fountain Gate - Fountain Gate (Australia) - This city is a suburb of Melbourne, which has three existing suburban Apple stores. A job listing appeared for a fourth store June 11, 2012, but specifying only "South East Melbourne." Tipsters quickly confirmed this Westfield mall with 300 stores in 1.5 million s.f. as the location. Grand opening Dec. 15, 2012. Trivia: This store and the Causeway Bay store would have opened at the exact same time. However, Chinese superstition over the number 400 caused Apple to open the Causeway Bay store slightly ahead of Fountain Gate, thereby avoiding the 400th store designation.
    5. Emporia - Malmö (Sweden) - In late March 2012 a job listing appeared for this store, but without a specific location. The city of 300,000 is located on the coast at the southwest tip of the country, directly across from Copenhagen (Denmark). In mid-2012 tipsters pointed to this brand-new shopping mall that has 200 shops, and will be opening October 25, 2012. It store will cover about 4,300 s.f. and will be the second Apple store in the country and in Scandinavia. Grand opening Dec. 15, 2012.
    • Rockaway (NJ) - This store opened in 2004, but will re-open in a 6,000 s.f. expande space on Dec. 15, 2012, leaving Oakridge and Stanford (both N. Calif.) as the last two mini-stores.
    • Third Street Promenade 2 - Santa Monica (S. Calif.) - Since 2008 there were whispers about a possible expanion or move for the existing very busy store along a pedestrian street in this coastal suburb of Los Angeles. On Aug. 16, 2011 LA.Curbed was tipped that Apple had submitted plans in April for a 75-foot wide store at 1415 Third Street, about two block south of the current store. Plans call for the demolition of the current 3-story, former Borders bookstore building, and constructing a new, 17,500 s.f. store, with about 4,000 of that in a partial basement for back-of-house operations, and an unknown area at the rear of the store behind a stone wall. The architecture is a duplicate of the Upper West Side store: stone side walls, and 34-foot tall arched glass roof. City Planning Commission approved the project Aug. 17, 2011, and the Architectural Review Board approved it Sept. 19, 2011. Permit applications puts the construction cost at $2,289,000.
