Apple Store Re-Opens Near Microsoft Store

November 20, 2009

Let the comparisons begin—the Apple store at The Shops at Mission Viejo (S. Calif.) will re-open after a major remodeling at 5 a.m. on Black Friday, just 360 feet away from the Microsoft store that opened in the mall on October 29th. The Apple store is on the same level and within the same hallway as the Microsoft store, but the two are nearly invisible when standing in front of either store. The Apple store closed September 14th for what the company described as a “remodel,” part of an on-going project involving nearly 90 stores this year. However, the length of the closure seems to indicate that major construction work was performed inside the black barricade. The Microsoft store has most of the same design elements as Apple’s stores, and it’s not clear if Apple will make major changes to the store design in order to differentiate it from its new neighbor. The Apple store (left) is just 360 feet down the hallway from the Microsoft store at The Shops at Mission Viejo.

If you read the article, the smaller “L” shaped store is the Apple Retail Store. Bigger isn’t always better.

I stopped by the new Pheasant Lane Mall store (Nashua NH). Apple has changed the layout for the new mall stores so they’re three rows of display tables (Think the new NYC store’s main level).

This is my local mall. yes the Apple Store is the L shaped store, however while the Apple store was closed for construction the Naartjie next door (the other little L shape store) moved. Apple has taken over their old space too. The new Apple store will be roughly the same square footage as the Microsoft store (shorter by I think 10 or 20 square feet.) So not only has the apple store remodeled they have expanded!

It would be the best if they opened a second Apple store in the same mall, right beside Microsoft. I would love to see a second Apple store directly beside them.

Could we have an update here? Please and Thank You. Photos would be good. Comparisons of each store’s traffic on a Saturday afternoon would be good. [IFO - I'll be in LA on Dec. 14th, so I may try to amble down to Mission Viejo and check it out.]

Here is what the new store looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3YD3sBPiFU

Looks just like the rest around Dallas… They’ve shuffled somethings in the Dallas area stores, but it never really felt like a remodel, but maybe it was.
