A new system that is so backwards they need an external reader to handle card transactions. Way to go, Apple!

No T-shirts??? I had read that triangular boxes were likely, were they a no-show? Any estimates about square footage? I haven’t confirmed it, but there is an elevator in the back somewhere for accessibility to the mezzanine? Looks like a great first store for France and I can’t wait to see what space Apple eventually locates in on the Champs Elysees. [IFO - Yes, an elevator is at the back-rear of the store, and there is back-of-house storage on the lower level through a center door. As for square footage, I actually haven't figured that—I'll get back there for the answer!]

i think the point was that there were no tshirts available by 5pm thus over 5000 people had visited the store by then.

another awesome show for apple! woo hoo!

According to French newspaper Liberation (see here http://www.liberation.fr/economie/0101601780-une-foule-pour-visiter-le-premier-apple-store-parisien) there were 1500 people at 10AM, and about 4.000 around noon.

All the French mac websites report thousands of people at 10AM (but I don’t know if they counted…)

A few French stars were spotted : Charlotte Gainsbourg, Yvan Attal, Vincent Cassel and Luc Besson. [IFO - Thanks for the additional info. I hand-counted the crowd at least three times, and it never total more than 750 in the queue at any one moment. I'm sure the total visitors to the store during the day was over 5,000. Sorry I missed the celebrities—I'm sure there were some who were lured by Apple's offer of free merchandise, as they've done before.]

They could have given the naked man an Apple T-shirt!

Any naked guy yelling Windows and Linux doesn’t deserve an Apple T-shirt. Typical Windows cheapster doesn’t even want to spend money on clothing.

Let’s see a Windows Retail Store opening generate that kind of devotion. I can’t wait to see what the Apple NYC Upper West Side store generates in the terms of people waiting on line for T-shirts. Even a couple of thousand people would be decent. I’m curious about the plastic covering to the store and how they’re going to remove it.
