On the heels of a report by Apple that sales of Apple products in Spain were up 40 percent during the latest quarter, a Spain-based Web site reports that Apple plans to open a retail store along Paseo de Gracia in the center of Barcelona, the country’s first. The Noticiasdot.com site cites multiple sources to confirm that Apple has leased about 10,000 square-feet of ground floor space at #38-40, and speculates the store could open later this year. The space is along a route frequented by tourists, especially those visiting the nearby Casa Batllò designed by noted architect Antoni Gaudi. It’s also within blocks of Las Ramblas, a wide avenue known for its street artists, international retailers and pickpockets. During a conference call with financial analysts today, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer noted that revenues for Spain were a “surprise” for the quarter, leading several other countries, including France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

wanting to keep track of any Barca developments
It’s not an Apple store. It’s the new Mandarin Oriental hotel, I spoke with security who told me there is going to be a MO hotel opening at the end of november. To make sure Mandarin Oriental are now taking reservations for a Barcelona hotel opening on P de Gracia 38 – 40. [IFO -- Thanks for the update. I've revised the location's listings to indicate it's not Apple.]
Boohoo
Update to my previous post:
There are two contractors working on that site. The security and builders I spoke to before were working on the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, yet another company are working on the old Bank of Sabadell for another project. This is next to the hotel at 36 P de Gracia.
So there could still be a possibility of an Apple store….
I hope so.
