Remodel Trades Black Metal for Shiny Steel

September 29, 2009

Visitors to the Keystone Crossing retail store in Indianapolis may walk right by the corner location, after a remodel made a dramatic change in the storefront—the imposing black metal siding and back-lit logo are gone, replaced with an expansive display window and shiny stainless steel. The make-over is part of an on-going series of store updates, some to refresh the interior design and others to standardize the storefront’s visual presence. In this case the Keystone store opened as #44 in November 2002, and embodied all the classic store features: Corian display tables, glass partitions, wood floor, and the distinctive black exterior with a narrow doorway. The just-finished remodel left the store with a frame of bright stainless steel surrounding a wide glass storefront, two rows of wood display tables, and a rear-located Genius Bar. The wood floor and narrow glass partitions were retained. The remodel also retained the back-lit logo on the exterior side wall, only this time framed in stainless steel. See photos after the break.

Thanks to Bogard for these post-remodel photos. First, here’s what the storefront looked like when it opened. The doorway is rather narrow, and while the black metal is dramatic, it’s also…well, depressing.

Here’s the new storefront, which presents a much lighter and brighter appearance.

The store’s interior is now much more visible, and it’s been upgraded with new tables and a new layout.
