A series of support columns within the space occupied by the the Apple store at the Chapelfield (UK) Shopping Centre forced Apple’s architect to create a very unique feature—a large wall at the front-center of the store, with two large-screen video displays on either side. It’s the only store in the chain with such a feature. There are four columns that apparently could not be removed, and they run from the very front of the store to the rear of the space. To accommodate the columns, Apple’s architects designed a wall between the first two columns, a span of about 10 feet. Set into that wall are vertically-oriented video screens showing promotional videos. The Royal Hawaiian (Honolulu) store has a similar wall located in the center of the store along a support column line. However, in that case, the wall is further back in the store, is used to support display counters on both sides, and does not feature video displays. Photos and video links after the break.
Here is a stillframe from a grand opening video showing the 10-foot wide wall just inside the storefront. The opposite side of the wall has a duplicate video display. Also view a flickr photo with the wall in the background. For more views of the store, the wall and the grand opening, watch these videos: [open videos #1 / #2 / #3 / #4 / #5 / #6 / #7]

Actually the central post in the Royal Hawaiian store does has a video facing the street entrance. However not once did I ever see a video playing. Maybe they should get Ryan Ozawa’s video made at the Grand Opening. There is a link on my website.
