The city of Hong Kong is the most obvious omission among Apple’s retail initiative, as the city is at top of international retailing, technology and tourism. But as with every other city, finding the perfect location has been difficult. The city is divided into two major regions separated by a harbor, and within those regions there are dozens of potential districts, each with its own personality. But sources say a finalist has now been chosen–somewhere–and that it features a 40-foot tall, circular entrance, possibly made of glass and surrounded by a narrow moat of water. Once inside, visitors will descend into an underground store, much like the existing Fifth Avenue (NYC) store. Construction on the store could begin soon, and a grand opening could be held in 2010.

I’d prefer a stream running underneath a transparent glass floor.
Well Apple store is a great addition to this amazing Hong Kong international country and its been a long time coming ….BUT
how about letting us join the Apples iTunes store online, so we can buy every thing that other countries can buy on itunes top up cards, buy music, movies, videos, ringtones, etc. etc. now that would be an amazing step forward for Apple! …come on guys you know it will do amazingly well and put us on the Apple International map!!
Yeah I agree with pauMOGGG – it’s a bit retarded having the iPhone 3GS here, and only an app store – they even sell Apple TV’s here but since we can’t actually buy movies it just seems half-cocked. iTunes would be really important to the local community and make it feel like Apple actually really cares about their HK customers, not just getting them to buy 1/2 the story.
News of an Apple store in Hong Kong is fantastic. Hopefully this will usher in new levels of service and support to the many Apple devotees here in Hong Kong. Currently we are serviced by ’so-called’ authorised resellers who offer poor product knowledge, no genius bars and lack lustre customer service at the best of times. I thoroughly agree with the previous posters regarding iTunes in Hong Kong; unfortunately the large media corporations and distributors in Hong Kong don’t take kindly to anyone buying music, TV shows or movies without them getting their cut, it’s the way things are done here.
I wonder if anyone actually knows where the store is to be located yet?
So when will it be opened as it was suppossed to start building/renovation end last year ?
Yes good question. Nobody seems to know…
