Is ASC Position The First Step for Norway?

September 11, 2009

The Scandinavian countries have been entirely ignored by Apple for its retail stores, perhaps because of their relatively small populations, but in spite of their higher standard of living, education and income. But Apple may be establishing the foundation for a full retail presence in Norway with the posting of an Apple Solutions Consultant (ASC) Manager based in Oslo. According to a translated job listing, the manager will be responsible for creating and operating the company’s Shop-in-Shop concept in Norway. “You will hire, develop and lead a team of young and enthusiastic employees that drive each Apple Shop in cooperation with qualified chain stores,” including retailers Elkjøp and Expert. The ASC program in the U.S. has Apple-trained and employed experts staffing authorized resellers. The concept was conceived to improve Apple’s presence in big-box retailers such as CompUSA and Best Buy, whose employees had neither the expertise or motivation to actively sell Apple products. The Norway ASC manager will be responsible for hiring employees, establishing a liaison with resellers and implementing marketing campaigns in the shops. “You must be able to lead teams and motivate young people in a professional environment,” the job listing states. As with all Apple job listings, pay for the position wasn’t mentioned. There are two independent chains of Apple resellers in the country, Eplehuset and Humac. both with stores that share similarities to Apple’s V1.0 interior design.

Just wanted to correct a misconception. An ASC is an an Apple trained and Apple badged employee that works out of a third party reseller. They are very much the same type of employee that works in Cupertino or out of an Apple retail store.

Just wanted to confirm that the other poster is correct – ASCs are indeed Apple employees otherwise they wouldn’t be called “Apple” Solutions Consultants.

Apple doesn’t like old people? “You must be able to lead teams and motivate young people……”

Please correct your article – or at least get your information correct before you publish an article – the Apple Solutions Consultants (ASC’s) are indeed Apple employees working out of third party authorized resellers (i.e.: Best Buy, CompUSA) – I have a cousin who is an ASC in Texas, he is a direct paid Apple employee…. I’m jealous!!!

It’s a blog. Frustrating thing about bloggers is that the rarely is ever fact check. That is why bloggers in most cases are not journalists.

Ouch! But, after all, I have never claimed to the The New York Times, just a guy who is enthusiastic about Apple’s retail stores.

Gary,

Sorry, it was not meant to be a commentary on you but blogs in general. I just find that a lot “blogs” have grown past the personal part and into commercial ventures as news sources. The bothersome fact is that they just shoot from the hip and present it as factual without researching the story.
