Apple store enthusiasts in Beijing (China) have uncovered architectural renderings on a public Web site that appear to show the design for Apple’s second store in the country, on Qianmen Street just blocks from Tiananmen Square. The design shows a 100-foot wide, three-level building with dark wood features and a traditional Chinese-style tile roof. The center portion of the building is all-glass with a suspended, back-lit Apple logo. Behind the glass, a three-level spiral glass staircase is visible. The area in front of the store is a wide stone pedestrian walkway. The renderings are posted on the ShanghaiStudio Web site, highlighting the work of American architect Benjamin Wood, who is headquartered in Shanghai. The exact location of the Qianmen store hasn’t been spotted by tipsters, but it’s believed that construction is well underway for a grand opening by this fall.
