Workers have erected a tall steel-girder shell around three sides of the future 67th & Broadway (NYC) retail store, indicating it will be a spectacular high-profile location. The $37.9 million project began last year with the demolition of the former Victoria’s Secret store, then sub-cellar, cellar and foundation construction. Now work is focused on the structural steel on three sides of the 8,400 square-foot lot. Interestingly, so far there is no construction at the front of the lot, perhaps indicating the storefront will be a suspended glass curtain, similar to the Boylston Street (Boston) store. Even more interesting, permits indicate the store will be on a single floor, despite the building’s 45-foot height. The store will open by very late 2009 or early 2010.Thanks to Richard for this photo.

Workers have erected a shell of heavy steel on the left and right sides of the lot, and at the rear. Scaffolding has been erected in the middle of the lot.
