Apple has re-scheduled the grand opening of the State Street (Santa Barbara, N. Calif.) retail store for this Saturday at 10 a.m. The store was originally set to open last Saturday, but a large wildfire forced the evacuation of nearly 30,000 of the town’s residents, and put the town under a blanket of smoke and blowing ashes. At one point the evacuation warning area came within one block of the store, but the downtown was never in any imminent danger from the flames.

Good move by Apple. Firstly, having dozens of persons waiting outside all night breathing in the smokey air is a bad idea. Secondly, to celebrate a new store opening while thousands were either evacuated or about to be is not a good PR move.
We’ve waited this long for the store opening; one more week won’t matter. Welcome aboard Apple.
