Another Cycle of Renovations Are Scheduled

April 22, 2009

Apple is closing several additional stores for a round of renovations, part of an on-going project to update very old stores to the latest architecture, and to refresh newer stores. The Washington Square (Ore.) will close on April 27th for a 12-day reconstruction, re-opening on May 9th. The store is a hybrid, with old-style glass partitions but with wood display tables and a stone floor. The Woodland (Mich.). Montgomery Mall (Md.) and Westchester (NY) stores will close during the same time periodi for similar renovations. The Aspen Grove (Colo.) store will open tomorrow after a renovation, while the Garden State Plaza (NJ) and Southpoint (NC) stores will re-open this Friday.

I still wonder why Woodfield, the 5th store ever and which still has the glass curtains, wood floor, and bean counters, still hasn’t been fully renovated. They’ve taken out the theatre and moved the Genius Bar to the rear and they’ve replaced the wooden floor at least once, but not with stone, just another wooden one.

Who else is wondering when their store is next?

Can someone who lives in that neighborhood take some pictures of the old and new design.

Not to whine/hijack, but I love reading about renovations at stores while I’m still awaiting my local Apple Store — in Little Rock, Arkansas — to open.

Funny how Apple is renovating multiple stores while others (other retailers) are closing Down!

When they post $1B+ in Profit, you can afford to do that, even in these times.

Brian, shame Apple can’t spend part of the $1 billion profit in retaining staff. 1600 job cuts, maybe the billion dollars could be spent on growing talent as well as upgrading stores.

We just visited the newly remodeled Aspen Grove store. Their third-party software selection has been reduced to a 5 ft wide shelf from the floor to the ceiling! WTF?

So where are people supposed to “browse” third party software now?
