Montreal Metro to Receive 3rd Store

April 18, 2009

Apple’s retail team has located the next Montreal-region retail store perfectly—at the Pointe Claire mall, nearly equidistant from the two existing stores so it perfectly improve coverage for the 3.6 million residents of the region. The two-level indoor mall is located along the Trans-Canada Highway in the suburbs southwest of city center, and about three miles from the city’s airport. The store could open by early November.

Interesting, I live in Montreal and I can see that a small store in that area is good because the area of west Montreal (Point-Claire, Roxboro, Beaconsfield, DDO, Kirkland, Saint Anne’s…) has some pretty rich people, because downtown is packed with high-rise buildings and the west side is better for big houses,,, plus the drive from that area to the apple store downtown can take a good 30-45 minutes plus traffic so its kind of smart to open up a retail store close up,,, good job Apple :)

I live in Montreal too… Carrefour Laval (Apple’s first store location around here) and Fairview Pointe Claire malls are both owned by the same company (Cadillac Fairview). Apple probably has a deal with them, so I’m guessing that we’ll also see Apple stores in Promenades Saint Bruno and Galeries d’Anjou (Cadillac Fairview’s other major malls around Montreal).

This is a very similar plan to what other fashion-oriented companies are doing around here, like Banana Republic and American Eagle Outfitters. Unoriginal, but effective plan.
