The economy may be uncertain, but Apple isn’t hesitant to open another New York retail store where the average household income is three times the national average. This fall a store will open at the Americana Manhasset mall, in the town of the same name whose small size (pop. 8,300) belies its average household income of $125,240 a year. The mall was originally built in 1956 as a row of street-level retail shops, but has evolved over time into what the developer now calls an “open-air, luxury lifestyle center.” The neighbors for Apple’s future store are amazing: Prada, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Escada, Hermes, Chane, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. The exact location of the store in the complex isn’t know, but it could open by mid-October.

This is not that far away from the always insanely busy Roosevelt Field store.
Can’t wait to get my free t-shirt.
Finally! The three Apple stores currently open on Long Island (Roosevelt Field, Walt Whitman, and Smith Haven) are definitely not enough to support the customer base on the island. It is completely obvious when you walk into any of the three stores, especially on the weekend. It will also be nice to be able to go to an Apple Store and not have to walk through the mall just to get to it, or deal with the mall parking lots. Although most of the stores are unaffordable, the Americana Manhasset is a pleasure to go to compared to Roosevelt Field.
Based on the size of a typical Apple store and the current vacancy at the Americana my guess is the store is not opening in Americana but adjacent to it in the shopping area that was B Altmans. There is some moving going around and being adjacent to H&M and A&F seems more in line than Tiffany and Cartier.
The store is currently under construction not in Americana but a block down at 1900 Northern Blvd. My guess is it will be more of a urban type store in that the current structure was leveled and the new building is just getting going.
John – I tried to find the location using Google’s StreetView, but it’s a little confusing. What type of lot or building will they occupy? Anything more specific?
The location is under construction next to the current Daffys and across a street called “The Gate” from Crate and Barrel. The eastern end of the current building has been torn down to make way for the construction.
