Two Future Canada Stores Confirmed

March 17, 2009

Apple will add two additional stores to its Canada line-up this year: a second store in Vancouver, and the first-ever store in Winnipeg (Manitoba). First, Apple will open its first-ever mid-Canada store by opening in the Polo Park mall in Winnipeg, not far from city center. The city has a population of 700,000, about one-half the entire population of the province, making it a major travel destination. Next, Vancouver’s second store will be inside Oakridge Centre, the city’s largest mall, and just four miles south of the existing Pacific Centre store. Both stores could open by this October.

Really, Oakridge is just down the street from the current Pacific Centre store. Heck, with the new skytrain line done in the next couple of months, you’ll be able to get from Pacific Centre to Oakridge in under 10 minutes. But nice to see another Vancouver store. Now what about the suburbs, like maybe Richmond Centre, Metrotown (in Burnaby) or that new “lifestyle village” in South Surrey?

Woot! Yay for Apple Store in Winnipeg. But, this guy posted scooped the story, originally. Had to have been there in person, though.

Jason:

It’s a bit further than “just down the street” from Pacific Centre — it’s about 50 blocks, plus a bridge over False Creek. Oakridge is also a very good fit for the Apple brand (probably better than Pacific Centre, to be honest). Cadillac Fairview has done a good job of stocking it with premium retailers — Harry Rosen, Birk’s, Lacoste, Talbot’s, DKNY, Sony, BCBGMaxAzria, etc. — while Metrotown (as an example) is all about volume. Which of those fits Apple’s marketing strategy?
