Construction Begins on 5th Toronto Store

March 2, 2009

The Toronto region must be oozing Apple customers, because the company has started construction on a fifth store for the area, this time inside the enormous Square One shopping in the suburb of Mississauga. The 1.7 million square-foot mall has 360 stores, including the one of North America’s highest-grossing Wal-Mart stores. A black construction barricade appeared on the second level of the mall in mid-February, adjacent to the Tommy Hilfiger stores. Now a tipster confirms that space #2-403 is indeed leased to Apple and will open this fall.

Thanks to David at The Pixar Blog for pinpointing the exact location of the store.

The Apple store will be on the second level, next to the two Tommy Hilfiger stores, in a 40-foot wide space.

I can’t wait for the flagship Apple store that’ll open on 1st Bloor! Thanx Apple for showing all this Torontonian love! We knew the world would soon love us back!

I’m sure you will be waiting for that flagship for a while at 1 Bloor Street East. The company financing it went out of business (Lehman Brothers), and the builder (Bazis International), won’t return calls inquiring about the project. Not to mention, the building permits have yet to be secured. I think we have another Metropolis on our hands (now known as Toronto Life Square). That took nearly 10 years from start to finish.

Another one in Toronto! And here in Vancouver we still only have Pacific Centre (which is a nice store, and is close to where I work). But another store or two, maybe out in the suburbs would be nice.
