This reminds me of VERY early iPod demos. The Target by me has a 1st, probably 2nd generation iPod “locked” within a block of acrylic. The Firewire and Headphone cable went through the middle which prevented being able to lift the unit out and walk away with it. That was also a “wedge” shape, but it disappeared fairly quickly from Target.

“For the first time since the Apple retail stores opened in 2001, the company has debuted redesigned the acrylic product information stands adjacent to each product on display”

Completely inaccurate. Apple has had many acrylic changes over the years. Similar designs to this one have been used throughout. This design is slightly more a angular than those used before.

Any idea where Apple gets these acrylic fixtures? The quality is exceptional – custom made? Also, can’t find this style that lays flat/horizontal on a table. Everything seems to stand up.
