Water Leak Drenches Sanlitun Store

January 26, 2009

A water leak in the fire protection system of the Sanlitun (Beijing) retail store flooded the ground floor and halted store operations for a time on Saturday. Photos taken by a passerby show that workers diked the water spill to contain it, and then used wet-vacs to suck up the water. The iPhone Savior Web site telephoned the store, where an employee  said that no Macs were damaged by the flooding. The store opened last July as the first Apple store in China. Check photos after the break.

These photos were taken by Marc van der Chijs from flickr.

In the middle portion of the store there are small sandbag dikes to contain the water, and workers are washing the floor and sucking up the water.

At the rear of the ground floor workers are vacuuming up the water around what appears to be sound gear used during presentations.

It’s not the first water damaged store though. There was that one in Texas where the new store above them flooded Apple when they tested Their sprinkler system.
