Apple held the press event today for the new Rosenstrasse retail store in central Munich (Germany), and it reveals a standard two-level design with a spiral glass staircase at the rear. The ground floor display areas focus on laptops and iPods, while the upper floors feature the iMacs, Mac Pros, kids area, software, accessories and two short Genius Bars facing each other. The store, the first in Germany, opens Saturday at 10 a.m. Check the photos and a video on the iFUN.de Web site, this flickr collection and a blog report. Is this store considered a flagship?
how big is this compared to 5th ave. or boston or sydney or regent street?
Eric — Based on the storefront and depth, it looks to be smaller than 4,000 s.f. for the retail floor (although there are back-of-house areas to the rear). This makes it smaller than Sydney, Fifth Avenue and Boston. This is not a flagship in the ordinary sense, but any “first-in-country” store located on a street with a spiral-glass staircase is still a big deal.
i would also add that this is a very high traffic area… i’d guess that 20k people walk past this store every day…!
ground and 1st floor are showrooms, 2nd floor is storage and employee locker room… elevator is hidden, i had to ask to get access..;-( it should have a sign and i shouldn’t have to ask…
