Florida Store Re-Opens In Bigger Space

September 22, 2008

For only the second time in the chain’s history, Apple has moved a existing store to a new location within the same mall, presumably to provide more space for a growing crowd of customers. The Aventura (Fla.) store opened in January, 2004 and occupied a second-floor space near the center of the mall. The original store closed only briefly so the entire operation could be moved into the new space, which had been prepared in a new expansion area of the mall at the south end, on the second level. There’s no report on how much additional square footage the store gained by the move. In 2005 The Westchester (NY) store was enlarged by taking over adjacent spaces. See a mall plan of the latest move after the break.

The original space was on the second floor. I worked there. That part of the mall, you enter on the second floor at ground level, however.

The reason Apple is switching locations is they are trying to avoid the store within a store option that they’ve done in the past. It deters sales and causes issues with the renovation of the existing space. It’s easier to just build out a new space while the existing store continues to stay open.
