Several years of planning and construction will culminate this Thursday with the grand opening of the Highcross shopping development in Leicester (UK), including the grand opening of the country’s 17th Apple store at 10 a.m. The shops, restaurants and other attractions in the central downtown district will be joined by a performing arts center and science-technology park in the next two years. The mall opening will be celebrated by a parade, dancers and other entertainment, and a night-time stage show. The Apple store will hand out 1,000 commemorative T-shirts at its grand opening, and hold a sweepstakes featuring a Macbook/iPod prize.

Hi People. This is my first write-up to the site! I live in Leicester UK & went to the opening of the new store. It was a bit manic because there was a massive queue, people some how got there before the official opening of the New Highcross Centre. The staff came running out whooping and shouting, taking video & photo’s, going back in but still not letting anyone in. It seemed a little false coming from the Brit’s because you American’s do drama far better than us! I waited by the door, a burly security guard asked if I was in the queue, I said no , ” Waiting for the Wife”" I replied. After a 10 second countdown, the crowd surged. In the rush, I just slipped in! I quickly started to speak to one of the more mature members of staff in a blue apple t-shirt. Security went a little over the top to keep people out, which was weird because there were more staff in the place than customers. I wasn’t going to buy anything in the crush, I’ll wait till the initial excitement dies down & then have a look.I was a given a t-shirt on the way in, then I kind young girl gave me another one on the way out.
1 each for the kids!! Bye - Rob Spencer.
