In the rush to have 242 stores by the end of October, Apple will open two more stores this weekend, at The Forum (Carlsbad, Calif.) and the Altamonte Springs (Fla.) mall. The stores bump up the number of stores in the two states, which will now lead the rest of the country with 40 and 15 stores respectively. The grand openings will leave Apple to open 15 stores within 76 days to meet the schedule announced by CFO Peter Oppenheimer last month during a financial conference call.

All appears to be ready at the Carlsbad CA. store. There is no line up so far. A lot of shoppers are wandering by to look at the storefront.
It appears to be 30% larger than the University Town Center mall Apple Store, thank goodness! No more sardine can shopping or long drives to La Jolla or Mission Valley.

I went to the Altamonte Springs store yesterday and enjoyed the wide, open layout. This store seems wider and less claustrophobic than the similar 2.0 layout of the Brandon, FL store which also opened earlier this year.
