A piece of the Green Monster plastic that once covered the glass façade of the Boylston Street (Boston) store has been sold to an eBay bidder for $500. The 3-foot by 8-foot piece included a portion of Apple’s famous logo, and was used to protect the glass before the store opened, as well as promote the new store with a Boston Red Sox baseball scoreboard theme. The winning bidder is webguy-phillipjackson, and according to the anonymous seller, the proceeds from the sale will go to the Boston-based boston2portland charity, which funds Parkinson’s disease research. More about the winning bidder after the break.In an e-mail exchange, auction winner Phil Jackson says he’s a Massachusetts native who went to college in Boston, and has a passion for the city and Apple’s products. He’s the president/CEO of SecureRAD, a company that develops radiology solutions running on Apple hardware, and marketed to hospitals and medical groups. “This little piece of Boston/Apple history is a lot of fun,” Jackson explains about his winning bid. He also appreciates that his money will be going to an important cause.

Glad to hear it’s going to a good cause. I’m always a bit cynical of people who sell Apple stuff, as usually their motives aren’t noble at all (”Hey, it’s Apple. We can charge $800 for this Wallstreet Powerbook!!!), but this is great.
THANKS to all those who visited the auction, (almost 7000!), all the 30 bidders, and all the people who checked out boston2portland… AND all the kind words of support.
The money will indeed be going to a great cause, every penny of it will go to fund research at the Center for Neurological Disease in the Brigham here in Boston.
