Just days after speculation that Apple’s first choice of a store location in Zurich had been switched, the MacPrime Web site tracked down and published photos of the architectural plans filed with city officials on April 30th, as prepared by the local firm Blue Architects. The drawings indicate Apple will perform substantial interior demolition and reconstruction in order to install the store, leading to the conclusion that the store will not open this year. The 3,013 square-foot retail space will cover only the ground floor, with employee space in the full basement and in a small second-level office.
The simplified drawings show an inset double-door entrance to the single-level store with an 80-foot storefront. Inside, Apple will occupy the entire basement and ground floor, and part of the second-level.
The retail floor covers 3,013 square-feet, and includes six display tables at the front, a two-seat ‘kids’ table, two demonstration tables, and an 11-stool Genius Bar at the rear. Display counters on both sides also appear on the drawing, along with product shelving along the rear walls. At the rear of the store there is an employee stairway and elevator behind a doorway, leading to a small second-floor meeting room and the basement.
Product stock, repair and break rooms, and the managers’ office are in the basement space, according to the plans.
Documents filed with the plans indicate the “owner” is Elizabeth King, whose address is given as 10131 Bubb Road, Cupertino, the home of Apple’s retail store team.
In the MacPrime photos, red indicates new construction, while yellow indicates structures that will be demolished.
