New Brandon Store Looks Like…Mini-Store

May 23, 2008

Photos of the Brandon (Fla.) retail that opens Saturday at 10 a.m. reveal that it resembles an interior design that originated back in October, 2004, with the opening of six mini-stores. The space is about 22-feet wide and the entire interior is stainless steel, with wood counters and center-located wood display tables. The store façade is also stainless steel, and the storefront is entirely open to the mall with no window glass. The new Pacific Centre (Vancouver) store is also of a similar design and size. After the initial opening of six mini-stores on one day, Apple opened three more stores within two months, some totaling less than 750 square-feet. The mini-store design went on to become the inspiration for a new interior design for full-sized stores, starting with the Mall in Columbia (Md.) store that opened in September, 2006. No additional mini-stores have been opened since the initial batch. Check this flickr photo of the Brandon store.

It shares some design similarities with a mini store, but is about 2.5 times larger in both width and depth. The layout is very similar though.

Just got back the grand opening. It is a small store, especially when compared to the Tampa store downtown. But its just great to have one in my town now and not have to drive a hour in traffic to get my Mac-fix.

I posted some photos on facebook if anyone cares:

Where are you getting your square footages? How is a store that is around 100′ deep (face of stainless to glazing or rolling grille) and 25′ to 30′ (fin to fin) calc. out to 750 s.f.? You guys normally have fairly decent information but come on, do you proof read anything or check anything you throwout on this site? This store is the exact same as any other mall store. How is it considered a mini store? [IFO -- It's small. Take a photo, measure a 5'-9" person's height, compare against the width and depth of the store. It's small.]
