An employee of The Westchester (White Plains, NY) retail store used her wits and the “Back to My Mac” feature of her .Mac service to track down her stolen laptop, ending in the arrest of two men. According to a police report, the unnamed 19 year-old employee and her roomates hosted a party, during which the laptop and other electronic gear was stolen. Shortly after, the victim and her roomates determined the laptop was connected to the Internet by using the feature built in to the .Mac service that allows remote access and control of a computer–Back to My Mac. The victim activated the laptop’s built-in camera, and it snapped photos of a man using the computer. One of the victim’s roomates recognized the man as a guest at the earlier party. Police tracked down the man and arrested him at home, discovering other stolen items inside. Edmon Shanhikian (l.) and Ian Frias (r.) are due in court this week on theft and possession of stolen property charges. Read more here.
