Pennsylvania Stores Creeping to Mid-State

April 29, 2008

Apple enthusiasts in Pennsylvania had better be prepared to drive unless they happen to live in the eastern or western portion of the state. Residents in the middle of the state are at least a two-hour drive away from an official Apple store. But now Apple is moving slightly closer to the middle of the state with a future store at the Park City Center in Lancaster. The mall operated by General Growth serves not only the city’s 470,000 residents, but draws from a wide surrounding area. The store could open before this Christmas.

I’m really wishing Apple would wise up and put one in Erie. Loads of tourists, a casino, race track and the junction of two major interstates…

We NEED an Apple Store.

Just a little clarification:

Lancaster PA itself (the city), has about 55,000 residents. The County of Lancaster as a whole has about 500,000 residents. With the Amish culture, it’s a major tourist destination. There are a lot of colleges, tech schools, ad agencies, printers and other typical Mac demographic within 50 miles. With it’s close proximity to Reading, York, Harrisburg & Hershey, there is certainly enough population and money in the area to support an Apple Store. The closest store is about 70 miles East of here, at the King of Prussia Mall, and dealing with the outskirt traffic near Philadelphia isn’t something most locals relish.
I predict it will be popular and profitable.

The proposed store at Park City Mall is about 5 minutes away from me.

See you at the opening!

I’d love to see a store in State College home of Penn State University.

I’d like to see a store in Harrisburg, but I’d be dumbfounded where to put it. We don’t have quality shopping centers or a downtown shopping district. Looks I’m stuck with a 45 minute commute to Lancaster.

To answer Wilder, I probably meant to say “Harrisburg area.” There are Malls on the West Shore (Silver Springs Commons, Capital City Mall, and others) and on the East Shore also.

The Lancaster store will be about a 35 minute drive. Far better than the 1.5 hours I drive to Baltimore or King of Prussia now. I too vote Harrisburg area. We have a new Best Buy which is our second in the area, but the only one with a “mini Apple store” in it. It’s just not the same though.
