I was going to send you guys a link to the pic I just shot this morning, thinking I was one of the first to see it, but I guess I was not. Great post.

Here’s mine, if you’re interested: http://www.geekforcefive.com/chrisclark/article/apple_store_boston_coming_soon/

So the scaffolding comes down which means final sidewalk work, I’m hedging my bet for 3 weeks from now on May 17th as the opening date. That gives them sufficient time to rip up the old sidewalk and replace it with a new one and have that cure in time for literally thousands of people to trample on within several hours.

I hope they get the date out soon. Its not easy to get cheap flights from Scotland with little notice.

I would probably say the store will open sooner than may 17th. Normally after the scaffolding comes down it seems like they aren’t really finished, but they really just have to clean everything up and put on finishing touches. I would say they probably won’t end up redoing the sidewalk, since it really isn’t in that bad of shape. Anyway, you could probably tell if it was going to open sometime soon if work was being done during the day and at night, since that is what they did for 14th st. in New York City. When the scaffolding came down there, they announced the store around the same time, and still had a ton of work to do. Not only that, but if you ask any of the construction workers when it is going to open they are almost always right from my experiences. I am guessing they will probably officially announce it sometime this week. [IFO -- By the way, the store is almost certain to open on a Friday at 6 p.m., as is the custom with street-level stores.]

1. Apple wants everything to be perfect, and even if the sidewalk isn’t in bad shape, they just spent like a year of construction on it, not to mention that it used to be vaulted and isn’t anymore.

2. I can’t say I noticed street-level opened on Fridays, but I’ll take your word for it.

It isn’t painted plywood, it’s a sticker over glass, and at night, it’s nicely backlit:
