Apple enthusiasts in Toronto (Canada) won’t have to wait until 2011 for an additional retail store–Apple plans to open a store in the Fairview Mall in that city by November. The 880,000 square-foot mall has 160 shops along Highway 404, northeast of the city center. Developer Cadillac-Fairview is just finishing an $81 million renovation and expansion of the 1972-era mall that will create room for a future Apple store. Just last week it was revealed that Apple will locate in the block-sized 1 Bloor East development, but that won’t be finished until 2011.

I can’t believe Apple hasn’t chosen to open a store in Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga. It’s the best mall in the Greater Toronto Area.
Probably a couple of reason. One, it isn’t a Cadillac-Fairview property, and the it is only about 5 miles from the Sherway Gardens store and it also isn’t very far from the Eaton Centre and Yorkdale stores. In my opinion, not being owned/managed by Cadillac-Fairview is the bigger reason than the proximity to the other stores.
Fairview??? wow i’m shocked!!! I’ve worked at fairview before and honestly i don’t think it has the revenue per sq. foot to support an apple store.
Apple will never open a store in Square One for one simple reason - it has a Wal-Mart and is considered a low-end mall.
Next up…LONDON ONTARIO?
Masonville Place
owned by Cadillac-Fairview
Upscale Shopping Mall
400,000 + huge UWO?

Looks like the next toronto area is Vaughan
that needs an Apple Store
I doubt Vaughan Mills will be next or ever - it is a discount mall. I think the Scarborough/Eastside or Hamilton/Mississauga/Westside of the GTA/Golden Horseshoe or even somewhere else in “old” Toronto would be before Vaughan. London will have to wait a lot longer I think too. There are 6 metropolitan areas in Canada larger than London that do not have Apple Stores. ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_100_largest_metropolitan_areas_in_Canada
Not to mention the several dozen in the U.S. without a store. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_metropolitan_statistical_areas_by_population Fairview Mall has the advantages of the new expansion/renovation and the termination of a subway line (albeit underused). Masonville Place is on the smaller end (sizewise) of the Cadillac-Fairview holdings. http://www.cadillacfairview.com/Client/Cadillac/CF_UW_V500_MainEngine.nsf/pagedocid/AAFFB0E68201C4B0852572C1005B0195?OpenDocument
Yorkdale is not a Cadilac-Fairview property, it is owned by the Oxford group. It has nothing to do with that.
Yorkdale is in the northern part of the city. Eaton Centre is downtown, Sherway Gardens is out West and now Fairview will be out East. Appears to me to be a logical location.
You should stop by and see the $81 million upgrade before you judge the location.
Yorkdale WAS a cadillac Fairview Mall wayyy back, when the first Apple Store in Canada opened before it changed hands. Also the upgrade at fairview really is not that impressive.
btw what is the source for this rumor?? Just because a mall is newly renovated or has a new addition doesn’t suddenly make it a location for an Apple Store?
Apple job postings is the source for this store
Square One a low end mall????? Being a mallrat since the mid 80’s, I can assure you Sq1 is no low end mall.
xoxRon
Square one is more low end then Eaton or Yorkdale or any american mall

At least give Vancouver a couple first!
