While Apple continues to open its own retail stores, big-box retailers continue to sell iPods through a variety of means, including vending machines. A recent visit to three different retailers–Target, Costco and Macy’s–found three different displays of iPods and methods of sales. Check the variety after the break.
Costco takes the “pallet” approach to selling iPods, with this display of huge plastic bubbles that contain nothing but cardboard. You exchange the plastic pack for an iPod at check-out.

This Macy’s store in Texas put an iPod vending machine right in the middle of the women’s clothing department, right next to the shoes.

Target stores don’t display working models, but use a large descriptive poster to inform customers about iPods. They also put stock behind a locked glass case.
