Apple Targets the Midlands for UK Store

March 25, 2008

Apple will finally locate a store in the east Midlands of the UK, with a store inside the huge new Highcross Leicester development in Leicester. The development will cover several blocks and feature residential, entertainment and retail sections intended to revitalize the city. The retail stores are scheduled to open September 4th, and Apple’s store should open the same day.

The Apple store isn’t visible in this rendering of the interior of the mall.

The exterior shows the residential (left) and retail sections of the development.

Is this a different Midlands than the one Birmingham, Solihull and Milton Keynes are in? [IFO - My bad. Apple lists it as 'East Midlands' in their job listing Web page, as opposed to 'West Midlands' where the other stores are located. I've cleaned up the story language.]

I live in Leicester and we already have a good Apple reseller at http://www.krcs.co.uk. This is good news though because the nearest Apple Store is the one in Birmingham.

Leicester is East Midlands and Birmingham is West Midlands, a good 43 miles away. http://lnk.nu/maps.google.co.uk/jd8

The Midlands is a bit ‘catch all’ – Birmingham and Solihull are ‘West Midlands’ – Milton Keynes is effectively the ‘South’ really…

Leicester (where the new store will be) is in the ‘East Midlands…’

Amazingly – all the various areas are around an hour away from each other – but have totally different accents and dialects / naunces…!
