You have no idea how wrong you are. You’re not required to take a job if its offered to you, your manager doesn’t “nominate” you to the regional, there are a *lot* more than 6 jobs available… [IFO - I believe I said that participants must agree to "relocate" if they accept the job, and that there are six "positions."]

    I wish it was me…

No Joe, you don’t. Perhaps you have no idea of the behind the scenes politics at our favorite store.
That great sucking sound you may hear has nothing to do with NAFTA.
It always amazed me to no end and nauseated me to the lengths to people will go to get in the boss’s good graces for a promotion.
And how some of the most God awful people manage to hang in on a job and get promoted.
I think that is something that most people can relate to.

All promotions in the Apple Retail chain are based on popularity and not on qualifications. This is especially true when it comes to the Mac Geniuses. You would think that they would be immune to the regular politics and just be based on technical and personal skills, but this is not so. I have seen, time after time, extremely qualified and competent people get passed over for a person that brown noses the store manager. I have also seen store managers that have given unfair advantage to justify the promotion of one candidate over another.

Amen, AppleMG! And to think that these people promoted up should scare the crap out of consumers. I won’t even go to the store where I used to work because I know too much about what goes on behind the scenes. This is the thing I was talking about, but I’d better stop right there. Love to write a tell all book though! It would make a great horror movie.

“Your manager doesn’t “nominate” you to the regional” — actually, the Manager does “nominate” you to the regional, then the regional can nominate a certain number from the pool they are given, then recruiters get you…

Well Tim, “nominate,” “rubber stamp” it’s all the same.

As they on the farm, the hogs eat from the same trough. I’d say with very, very few exceptions these nominations will go through.

Competence has very little to do with the process at that stage.

I’ve been there, seen it for my self.
