Attention all 515,000 residents of Wyoming, Apple is feeling your love. According to Sr. V-P Retail Ron Johnson, the company has been scouting the state, along with Idaho and other sparsely populated regions of the country, for suitable locations for an Apple store. Johnson made the remarks at Tuesday’s shareholders’ meeting, in response to a question from a Wyoming resident. Johnson explained that the company’s retail success was fueling growth, which could mean stores in smaller markets. Right now, there are no identified future stores in a wide area of the country that includes the Dakotas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. In fact, just 37 of the 50 states and D.C. have an Apple store.

I’m glad that Apple is looking at filling in the open areas on the map. if you are going to be a national company, you have to be every where. But Wyoming can wait. Why not right across the border in Ft. Collins CO. Larimer and Weld (Greeley) counties have more population and more Universities than Wyoming. A store in Ft Collins would still be available to Cheyenne. And there are 800,000 people in El Paso (Colorado Springs) and Pueblo counties. Boise ID makes sense. But then Illinois outside of Chicago. No stores planned in Rockford, Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, Champaign-Urbana (University of Illinois) ect. Still a lot of population needing coverage. But then maybe the rents are cheaper in Wyoming.
