New SoCal Store Revealed

February 22, 2008

Apple’s stores have been slowly creeping northward from San Diego, filling in the area between that city and the southern suburbs of Los Angeles. Residents in the inland area along Interstate 15 can now look forward to their own store at the North County (Escondido) mall, a huge 1.2 million square-foot complex that is due for a $100+ million renovation by developer Westfield Group. The store could open by year’s end.

North County Mall is hardly the upscale sort of place where Apple has traditionally placed their retail stores. Definitely middle-of-the-road store quality and nothing distinctive. I will be curious how sales per square foot compare with the other Apple stores in the county.

Nice to hear. It’s pretty much impossible to get same-day Genius Bar reservations at UTC or Fashion Valley. By the way, the mall is known as North County Fair, although Westfield has probably given it some stupid new name that no one cares about.
