Another Central Texas Store Planned

January 16, 2008

Texas already has 12 stores to supply Apple fans, but the company is planning to add another one to the north Dallas suburbs, this time at the Stonebriar Shopping Centre in the town of Frisco (pop. 6,000). The huge, 1.5 million square-foot center hosts 165 retailers and draws upscale shoppers from a huge region. The mall is about 17 driving miles from the existing Willow Bend store in Plano, and will open by year’s end, tipsters say.

Frisco, and all of the Dallas/Fort Worth MSA, is considered North Texas not Central Texas. Also Willow Bend to Stonebriar is no more than 6 miles up the Dallas North Tollway.

Frisco’s population was 6,000 once upon a time, but the city has boomed in the last 10 years. I graduated high school there in 1999, and they had just put up the walls to Stonebriar Centre. Frisco’s population today, according to the City of Frisco’s website, is near 100,000. (92,100 as of January 1, 2007).

Dallas/Fort Worth is sort of Central Texas.. North Central. There’s no need to get nit picky. Knox Street and Northpark are very close to each other too but, that hasn’t affected their sales. Stonebriar is perfect. There are a lot of upper middle class people in Frisco and Stonebriar has been packed every time I’ve been there. Stonebriar has a lot of attractions that help bring customers in such as an ice skating rink, a Cheesecake Factory, Chili’s, etc.

I always figured that location would be next. Hi Howie…I used to work with you!

Wow, what a lot of incorrect information in that ‘blurb. That sure is a short 17 miles!

Erm, actually…. when I saw this headline, I thought they meant Austin, which is 200 miles away. No one from Texas would ever, _ever_ say “Central Texas” and think of Dallas. Ever.

Central Texas: Waco, Austin, San Marcos. Maybe San Antonio.
East Texas: Houston, Galveston, Beaumont
South Texas: Brownsville, Corpus Christi
North Texas: Dallas/Ft Worth and surrounding areas
West Texas: Lubbuck/Amarillo
Far West Texas: El Paso

Saying Dallas is in “Central Texas” is like saying Boston is in New York.

All semantics aside, Frisco’s population is over 100K now.
