Looks like Apple have opened a 'Apple Shop' (kind of like a mini Apple Store) in the new Currys/PC World Megastore in Birstall (just outside of Leeds).

Finally some kind of official Apple presence in Leeds!

The external work on The Core is complete, most of the internal work as well, and the first retailers are moving in (Cotswold Outdoor, USC and a JD Sports/Bank Clothing concept store). The store in question for Apple has been debunked as being earmarked for an Apple Store by sources close to the developers. However the design of the unit (double height frontage for a single floor, that single floor layout being a near perfect rectangle) does seem like it was conceived with Apple in mind.

The remaining unit in Broadgate would, if Apple took it, be there biggest store in the UK outside London. Due to their current rollout of stores in the UK focusing on new developments, it's more likely they'd wait for the delayed Trinity Quarter scheme (work on which is on hold until after the new year). The plans for the Trinity Quarter look similar to Cabot Circus in Bristol, itself having an Apple Store.

"This is a good start…..cities with like 400,00 people are now getting Apple stores Now apple? London Ontario? Next please."

Cities with populations of 400,000 aren't getting Apple stores. Leeds has wrongly been described here- it is infact a city of 760,000 people at the centre of a metropolitan area nearing 3 million people.

Lands Lane is a weak location though- I wonder if The Core are simply trying to attract Apple rather than Apple having confirmed. Upcoming Trinity or the remaining unit in Broadgate would be better surely?

It looks like construction of the store is making some progress. I've set up a thread in the forum which i'll update with regular construction photos if anyone wants to keep up with the progress of the new store. Check this forum page.

Leeds has a population of 750,000, not 440,000. In which case, Leeds should have an Apple store as the largest city in the north. The old Allders building that is being renovated could be a good location. The renderings on The Core that show an Apple Store are very hopeful, and I don't think indicates an Apple store will open- just the sort of retailers The Core is hoping to secure.

Yeah it looks like a weak location compared to some other other places in Leeds. Maybe the White Rose Shopping Center or somewhere in the Victoria Quarter? A store in the Corn Exchange would be pretty cool.

I think the distinctive aspect of Leeds is that it punches above its weight in terms of shopping. With around 80,000 students in the city it has an enormous cachet in terms of culture and style. Furthermore it is a regional shopping destination from places like Huddersfield, Rotherham, Bradford and to a degree, York. It'd be an idea place for a store, just most certainly not in that location.

It's about time Leeds got a store, but agree with Patrick. The developers are being a bit hopefully there. Can't see Apple wanting to between jd and jbb!

I'd be surpised if Apple were to locate on Lands Lane. Although, yes, it has huge traffic passing through, people are doing just that: passing through. Streets just around the corner from the location are much more desirable and appropriate. The 'Core' shopping centre would have to be completely rebuilt for it to resemble something appropriate for an Apple Store. In my opinion (as a resident of the city), it comes across as decidedly third rate. Albion Place or Briggate itself would be much more appropriate.

Personally, I hope this move is simple overreaching by the developer.
