That’s no an Apple store. That is a reseller that wants some attention. The only Apple Stores that will open in Latin America is Mexico and Brazil.

    jason December 19, 2007 at 4:17 pm

for example Mexico has its online store….and the rumors points that they ll open one in Torre Mayor. But Peru is a mini country and a very poor one. They don’t even have an Online Store. Apple isn’t going to put an Apple Store from night to day.

I think that it’s great news that Apple is growing it’s brand and stores all around the world.

I really can´t tell from being there in front of the tarp myself, and I´ve seen my share of Apple store construction. The first thought that came to my mind however, was the recent signing on Dec. 14 of the US-Peru free trade agreement, which immediately lowers trade barriers on consumer goods between the two countries. As far as I know, the US has not yet reached agreement with Brazil on free trade. Then again, neither has the US and Japan.

Does anyone else think that the logo seems to be Photoshopped in? It’s the first impression I got when I looked up close, but I might be wrong. I can’t see an Apple Store in Peru at the moment, though it would be nice if there were one. [IFO -- I check the 3 Mp originals and they appear authentic.]

    Jess December 19, 2007 at 8:00 pm

… Considering that Jockey Plaza is owned by a Chilean, and that business reports haven’t said anything here; I’ll say is just a reseller trying to grab attention by violating Apple logo guidelines. The two biggest Apple retailers in Chile aren’t even allowed to use the logo alone, and if they do, they can lose the licence to sell Apple products.

And if they open an official Apple store, is only going to be in Mexico, Brazil and maybe, Argentina. Remember that this is ROLA, the tail-end of Apple priorities.

    KenjiFinster December 19, 2007 at 8:59 pm

I bet there won’t be a single Apple Store in South America in 2008 or 2009.

    Tom December 20, 2007 at 12:59 am

exactly.. i dont mean to be rude..

But Peru isnt an important market for Apple. Even if it was, the will go in steps (firts they have an online store, then they be listed in the country list form apple). But Peru doesne have any of those.

I mean, Apple isnt going to open an Apple Store in a 3rd world contry from night to day.

And for those who said about the free trade agreement, that doesn have anything to do. Maybe prices will go lower, but the interst of Apple in the country is the same. NONE

    jason December 20, 2007 at 7:36 am

Rumors down here says there’ll be 2 real Apple Stores next year (2008 — both in major Shopping Centers in São Paulo, the largest city in South America) and more later.

We already have an Apple’s store-in-store agreement between AppleBrazil and a huge grocery net (Extra — http://www.extra.com.br), initially in São Paulo, later in Rio and other states/cities. I drop a visit to the first opened (early december) and it looks like a sample of what is coming: a mini Apple Store. See pictures in http://www.macmagazine.com.br (search for Extra).

In fact, Mexico already have iTunes Store and it’s a sign that iPhone is coming to Mexico and probably to Brazil, since a major Mexican cell company owns the 3rd bigger in Brazil (I mean Carlos Slim’s, which owns Claro in Brazil — http://www.claro.com.br).

Hope I be able to buy some movies and music soon…

    Abraços
    Ale

    Jess,

Why would anyone go through the trouble of photoshoping an apple logo into the picture? Seems like quite a lot of work for zero benefit….

Oh, well even though that’s an Apple Store or an Apple Reseller. The operation MUST be supported by Apple; so what we need to emphasize here, is that Apple is finally going into new markets.

Now people can get Apple products at lower prices. By the way, I don’t find it rare, since, the richest guy in the world is Latin (Mexican Multibillionaire Carlos Slim).

    Carlo December 20, 2007 at 3:50 pm

Just a note, in http://www.ifoapplestore.com/stores/lima_first.html you mention that Lima has 4 million residents, something that is not right. As of 2005, Lima has an approximate of 8 million residents. :D [IFO -- Thanks, correction made.]

Adrián Tamariz December 20, 2007 at 5:20 pm

carlo: if it is an apple reseller is not operated by Apple.

The differnce is one. Apple SELLS products in Mexico and Brazil in the other part Peru distributors ASKS for apple products tu sell them.

    jason December 20, 2007 at 10:38 pm

    HR,

I thought it might have been photoshopped because of the “straightness” of the logo on the tarp. It seemed a bit unnatural considering tarps have wrinkles in them.

As to why they would do it. Most likely to get attention; get people talking like right now. Confuse us deliberately.

    Jess December 21, 2007 at 11:43 am

I live in Lima and I saw the Apple reseller to be store. First of all, it will an Apple Reseller only. I think Apple won’t open any Apple Shop or online Store in Peru anytime soon, but it would be a good idea to put one in Lima since the Free Trade Agreement started. If they manage to make some of the components in Peru, or even ensemble some parts in Peru, they can sell online and distribute throughout the Andean Comunity and Mercosur (all SA countries).

    Donald January 30, 2008 at 8:26 pm

It is in fact an apple retailer… but all the people that will be working there are being trained by apple and it will even have a genius bar, apple staff are helping with the design of the store too.

It seems that apple has gained some momentum here in Lima, now is very common to see those white earbuds from ipods and one of the major department stores here has started to sell apple computers too.

As in many other places having apple products is somewhat fashionable and more and more people are in the trend.

@jason, yes, Peru is still a poor country, but it is experiencing the fastest economic growth in the region, also, Lima is a very big city with a lot of comercial potential, so it kinda makes sense to apple to “try” a new concept of store, with a stronger apple influence but without the risk of exploring a new market by themselves, most people will think taht it is an apple store, it will look like one and will work like one, but apple will not be risking a cent.

and to the people who thought that the pic was photoshoped: http://www.aeromental.com/2007/12/20/apple-store-en-lima-peru

Hey guys in thee is going to be an apple authorize reseller store in Jockey Plaza, which is an excelent idea since is much needed in Peru. I have personally ran with quite a few number of apple fun in Peru.

    oracio February 22, 2008 at 11:48 am

    Hey everybody,
I am from Peru and I can tell you thet we are not just “a poor country” from what you are saying I can deduce that you’ve never been in Perú. First of all go to Perú and then you can talk about it and I assure you that if you go to Perú you are gonna like it.

    P.S.
    Shut up!!!!

    Matias April 21, 2008 at 2:39 pm

iStore opens it’s doors last week, the prices are good as I hear (I didn’t go there yet) and…. people says that it’s a little small to the public, but…. for the Mac addicts it’s a great place, even if stupid people says that Peru doesn’t require it…. GOOD POINT FOR THE GREAT IDEA OF THIS STORE IN LIMA…. IN SOUTH AMERICA…. IN LATIN AMERICA!!!!! F*** off all of you!!! [IFO - Whoa!]

Daniel Colchado May 11, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Wahoooo it’s amazing the New Store in Lima, so amazing. but in Peru there was not stores, but it was easy to find good prices in Laptops, specially Macbook Pro and mMcbook. for example in the centre of Lima in Polvos Azules And Compuplaza Mall you can find iphone unblocked, of 8 and 16 Gigabytes. The peruvians people are very smart for this kind of things. So, now you can have your iphone of 16 Giga for US$ 580.00 that’s crazy.

    We love apple
