I’ve arrived in New York City for Friday’s grand opening of the 14th Street Apple store. It was nearly dark when I arrived at 4:30 p.m., temperatures were in the low 30s and there is a very light dusting of snow here and there. Of course, the city is jammed with residents and visitors, and the Christmas lights are out, giving the city a very festive look. The overnight forecast is no snow but temperatures in the upper 20s. Thursday might see some light snow and a high of around 40 degrees. Check my grand opening report that includes the first photos at night, and also these daytime photos.

Are you waiting until Friday?! It will get VERY cold, I live right outside of Manhattan and this morning at about 8, it was 30 degrees. It’ll be even colder because West 14 St is pretty close to the Hudson River. Stay warm and have fun! [IFO - I haven't started a waiting line yet, since an overnighter seems downright dangerous! Early Friday morning?]
Welcome to NYC!
I passed by the store this evening around 11 PM. Workers were finishing some interior details and cleaning the window panes on the 2nd and 3rd floor for about the millionth time this week. Otherwise, the store looks ready to go.
Apple did a fantastic job creating a beautiful retail space without destroying the exterior fabric of the building. The flagship stores in major cities are much more appealing than the mall layouts.
I live two blocks away so I’ll be in line on Friday.

More photos in there!
“Apple just had its best quarter ever in Mac sales and at Apple Stores simultaneously. He did say the ratio of new stores is going to move a bit more in the international direction, since there’s a lot of room to grow there.”
So apple will open more international stores soon! thank god! more Canada ones!
London, Ottawa Ontario, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver! hopefully
please apple…expand expand

nyc trip in may 5th + soho + 14th? perfect trip?
yes
I’m in the city on vacation/business - what time would be best to join the line at to get inside in the first batch (maybe with some nice freebies?) - what’s the precedent with other stores?
I checked it out last night (Weds) and it looked fabulous…
Sure its a big store but I am not impressed. The exterior is not wow! The interior just looks like another Apple store but with a 3 story glass staircase. Be more creative guys! It will never beat the store in London. It used to be a church back in the 1600’s not a meat packing factory of the early 1900’s.
Well, what do you expect? NYC isn’t London.
Mumbo Jumbo
…so what , if the Uk store is so great go back there and stay there, you are only here for the exchange rate bargains anyway.
