Before you can renovate an Apple store, you have to break down the old one. That process is revealed in photos posted on a flickr account of the Oak Brook (Ill.) retail store that were taken in late October. Store staffers stripped the products off shelfs and displays, and the old Corian “kidneys” and store fixtures were yanked out, revealing how much gunk builds up under the furniture. After this work, crews erected a construction barricade and performed a major, three-week renovation on the store that included a floor plan change. Oh man. I would have paid to have a part of that store!

That store always was small, I mean look from the pictures, there’s not even two display windows, only one and the apple logo over the black background. If they’re completely redoing the store, I’m curious as to if they’re going to take out the whole front of the store, replaces it with the all-glass (V3.0, 2.5??) front, and suspend the Apple, thus not needing the current black wall with logo. It would make sense since they build a temp wall in front of the old store which wouldn’t necessarily be needed if they were keeping the existing one. Also taking the floor out means the suspension track would need to go anyways, so now is the perfect time. Is it open again? Maybe I should just pop on over and snap a few.

I agree Brian, the store is actually one of the first Apple stores to be opened and it’s quite narrow. It would be interesting to see how everything turns out.
