Apple’s construction team has a habit of pulling off surprises, so the apparent construction progress at the future 14th Street (NYC) store may not indicate if they store will open by the rumored December 7th grand opening date. The exterior of the store is taking shape, looking much like the SoHo store brick exterior. But inside, the store is still filled with scaffolding, construction materials and an army of workers. Thanks to Craig for photos of the front of the building that includes the Apple store and the interior.

This store is being constructed by the same company that is building the Boston Boylston Store; Shawmut, based in Boston.
The photo of the front of the Apple store posted by Craig is actually the store next door (although in the same building). The bottom floor of the store is surrounded by black construction walls. There are stacks of boxes containing glass and interior construction panels. The exterior windows were installed over the weekend. [IFO - Thanks, story corrected.]
My sources say the first week of December - that puts Friday the 7th more than two weeks away. Given the absolutely furious, round-the-clock pace of construction and the gold mine that is NYC retail during the holidays, I can’t imagine there is any way Apple is not going to try to open up soon.
If not December, then January or February. But in that case why bother with costly weekend and late night construction?
In that interior photo, you can see a distinct opening to the second floor. Is that where the glass staircase is? It should be visible by now since their permit to install it was a month or so ago.
