Beijing's official AppleStore will be scheduled to open in mid-July in the new Sanlitun shopping mall.

All the other stores selling Apple products are resellers - the Sanlitun store will be the first in China.

OK, so apparently there are no Apple stores in Beijing, but I have seen one in Pinnacle Plaze, Shunyi and one in the Lido hotel. I am curious if these stores are legit. The look like they could be (especially because they are set up in these particular spots), but you never know in this country. Who knows this? I can't get the information from the Apple Web site. [IFO--I think you're asking if these stores are authorized Apple resellers. I'm not sure if Apple has blessed resellers in China yet.]

Why bother with an Apple "Store"? Have you ever tried to BUY something there? They are display stations only. Occasionally, one of the curators might reveal that the computer they are working on can actually sell something, but don't count on it.

As a user of over 10 macs since 10.2 came out, I appreciate the hardware and software, but "Stores"? They win awards, perhaps, but they only make me more and more inclined to go to Dell and Unbuntu.

I hope I can live long enough to see an Apple Store in Hong Kong. [IFO -- It's a real mystery why no store has appeared in this city yet. It would seem the most logical place to put an international store: loads of tourists, tech-savvy residents, etc.]

I also have to echo the comments by Roy that an Apple Store in the Palm Springs area is badly needed. I've told my parent several times to switch to mac, as they're having constant problems with their pc's. Apple really needs to look at this area.

I recently moved from San Francisco to Palm Springs California. I realized soon that I was totally spoiled by the local access to the Apple Store Genius Bar in SF, which I thought was one of the most brilliant ideas Apple came up with. Finally, there was a knowledgeable human being (who I could understand) and was right in front of me instead of thousands of miles away reading scripts to never solve my problem. One of my primary reasons for moving to Apple products.

I believe Apple is missing a major market down here in the "Inland Empire" (Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, etc.). A group of people that I assume may be of a higher income bracket and of an age (a bit more mature) were they just want a machine that works and a place to resolve problems (locally) if things don't. Granted this still somewhat a seasonal area but an area with one of the highest growth rates in the country. Only in the last two years there has been added 3 Lowes stores, a Wall Mart, Sam's club and a second Home Depot. There are also now two universities and more coming.

The city of Palm Springs is planning major renovation of the downtown area and an anchor store like an Apple Store could possibly be granted major incentive.

My wishes are not only selfish but I recently read that the "older" (read over 40) population tends to buy Apple products before considering some other brand.

Having lived and worked in Northern California for 20+ years and discovering that there was a store in Emeryville, I would certainly think an area like the Cochella Valley could certainly produce much more income that Emeryville which until recently was basically and Indian burial ground and a train station.. Okay, Pixar is located there but Steve could deliver, couldn't he?

The other reason I write is from a recent experience visiting the closest store to the desert... Rancho Cucamonga.
A rather unpleasant experience as the store was TOTALLY overwhelmed and it took me (I checked my iPhone clock) 27 minutes to find someone to TAKE MY MONEY... What is wrong with this picture. And there wasn't even any special new offering by Apple at the time. This was on an average Tuesday afternoon.

Someone at Apple needs to "buy" a clue before I'm buying any more stock... ;-)

BTW... I may be first in line with my job application in hand...

I decided to keep my last post short. I was going to name several areas that Apple needs to place stores if they really want to grab market share. Two of my top three have been named.
Boise, ID is fast growing, tech-oriented and a good sized university. And nowhere near another store.
Colorado Springs is over 500.000, good demographics, with three colleges including the Air Force Academy and some tourism. Also Pueblo is less than an hour away with over 150,000 potential customers.
Lansing, MI is 450,00 with Michigan State having 50,000 student and faculity.
Apple retail has been very succesful, but they need faster growth. Especially internationally.

I'm a college student in senior year in China, and, currently, hunting for a job. As a member of the Apple fans club, I always consider the opportunity of working for our beloved fruit company an dream job. The moment I saw the news that Apple will be opening its first Retail Store in Beijing, China, I rushed to check up upon the three major job listing sites in China, looking for information related to Apple's hiring. However, nothing came up as expected.

So then I asked about this on our university bbs, a member told me that I might need recommendation in order to be hired. I'm wondering if anyone could help me a little bit.

Thank you very very much!
