The release of Apple’s long-anticipated Leopard version of OS X has been confirmed for Friday, October 26th, when the company’s retail stores re-open at 6 p.m. and begin selling the new operating system. Where possible, the retail stores will be open until midnight to accommodate the crowds that will appear to purchase the software. Interestingly, the University Village (Seattle), Oakbrook (Illinois) and The Pier (NJ) retail stores were scheduled to be closed October 22 – November 9 for floorplan changes and renovations, completely missing the Leopard event. However, at least the Oakbrook store construction has been pushed back to it’s open for Leopard’s release. Apple has announced that it will give away commemorative T-shirts to the first 500 guests at each store the evening of Leopard’s debut.

What is the source of this info? I checked my local store pages, including Oakbrook, but none list Leopard on the 26th. The Oakbrook page still says “We’re Making Our Store Better Than Ever
We’ll be closed for renovation from October 22 – November 9. During this time please visit the Apple Store, Orland Square, or Apple Store, Woodfield.” despite supposedly being pushed back.
If this is in fact true, it will be cool.

Confirmed by whom where when? This story tells no source. It reads like an unconfirmed rumor.
It hasn’t been confirmed by Apple directly, and all the *Rumor* Sites are saying that is confirmed. Take this rumor lightly although it does seem very possible. I’m predicting an announcment from apple Tuesday AM
I don’t think that they would post a name of an Apple insider on the site! I know if I was working for Apple and working under the rules that are enforced upon them I would make real sure my name was not posted anywhere. As far as the website is concerned they will not change it until the official media annoucement on the 16th.

All Apple stores are busy updating right now (noon in Paris)… for the official announcement ?
Well I spoke to a guy at the Apple store yesterday and he suggested that it will be in the next two weeks and if you don’t want to be stuck on a two week to 1 month waiting list for the new products it would be best to order now. I just wish they would hurry up and tell us whats going on.
