The New York Post reports that Apple’s real estate representatives have been spotted in Brooklyn (NYC) looking at corner spaces in the Williamsburg section development along Kent Avenue between 5th and 7th Streets, a development called The Edge. According to the Post Apple and clothing retailer Barneys Co-Op have had “on-going” talks with the developer to locate at the site, which includes 1,350 condos in three buildings as tall as 29 stories, and 60,000 square-feet of retail space. Apple is eyeing spaces in the 3,000 to 5,000 square-foot range. Rents are running $60 to $100 a square foot per year, sources tell the Post, and any retail space won’t be available for at least a year. Apple’s search in Brooklyn was first revealed by tipsters in early September.

This neighborhood is called Williamsburg, and no one goes there unless they live there. It’s ignored by the rest of the boroughs and no one really knows how to get around there. The most forlorn train lines go past and the train stop is out of the way for everyone else. The vehicle traffic is horrendous.
They should wait or become early pioneer settlers of the fast-changing Downtown Brooklyn area — all the trains heading towards Manhattan go past, as well as Long Island commuters. Major stores like Macy’s and Target make money hand-over-fist. Mac owners already set up shop in the coffee houses in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Not to mention, but there are plans to build the Nets stadium in the neighborhood, and the performing arts community is moving in steadily. Apple should get into this area early. Downtown Broooklyn will be busy, hip and exciting in 2-3 years!
That is the most ignorant comment I have ever heard. I go to Williamsburg all the time for the great restaurants, cool bars, and nice parks. I live in The Bronx and just recently moved from Manhattan. Just about every stop on the train in Williamsburg is packed and it will only continue to grow.
