The construction firm building the future George Street (Sydney, Australia) retail store has applied to close the street four nights in January and February 2008 so a 90-ton crane can install the elaborate glass façade for the building. In the permit application, Kell & Rigby Pty Ltd. provided a detailed traffic management plan for the street, which runs through the middle of downtown Sydney. Apple will occupy the ground floor and two upper levels of the building, representing the first Asia-Pacific store outside Japan. Based on the construction schedule, the store could open in mid-2008. Download (pdf) the permit here.

You wrote: …”representing the first Asia store outside Japan.” Sydney Australia isn’t in Asia. Australia is a continent all its own. I love the site though. Keep up the great work! [IFO -- I still have geography lessons to learn! I'll edit that part to be more accurate.]
Great news for those down under.
I always thought it strange that Australians didn’t consider themselves Asians.
I have seen the site and it’s a prime location. Sydney (and I) need an Apple store and the sooner the better. For businesses, Australia is part of the Australasia market. So called because Australia, New Zealand and some Asian islands are grouped together to form a stronger export basis.
Actually being 100% correct…Australia is not its own continent. The correct term for Australia is actually “Oceania.” Search it on Google and it’s the area around Australia (such as New Zealand, etc.). Sorry to have to correct you….but it’s incorrect..Australia is a country! The term is “Oceania.”
“Australia is a continent all its own”
Yes and no. Australia is considered a continent due to its large land mass. However, as the person above me has already said, Australia is just another country Oceania (which includes NZ, the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea).
