Apple Switches Greenville Locations

August 29, 2007

Finding no appropriate space at its original choice of the Haywood Mall in Greenville (SC), Apple has now selected the Magnolia Park Town Center for its first retail store in the state. Menin Development Companies Inc. purchased the property earlier this year after the former mall had been demolished on the site along I-85 southeast of downtown. The mall was originally scheduled to open in Spring 2008, but the recent purchase has pushed the mall opening back to Fall 2008.

That’s a great location, it’s across the street from where I work. It also happens to be the hottest location in the city.

Interesting posts… iPlace, an Authorized Apple Reseller and Service Provider has been operating a retail store in the prestigious Thornblade area of Greenville for over a year now. iPlace specializes in unprecedented customer service and sales excellence.

Not true, Rodney. There’s another Mac shop in Greenville called iPlace. It’s on Batesville Road in the Thornblade Commons.

Great news for me! I was just reading about Comp USA closing its doors soon, so hearing about this upcoming Apple Store has really lifted my spirits. Didn’t know about iPlace before today though lol. But it’s still great to know that Apple’s opening a store here in GREENVILLE, SC!!!

What took them so long? Lol

I heard over the weekend from a Best Buy sales person that Apple is putting an Apple Shop inside the Greenville BB sometime in May of this year…. I’ve been to one of the BB Apple shops – they are really cool & is just like walking into an Apple retail store…. it’s about time Apple is coming back to Greenville – I always enjoyed hanging out at the Apple shop at CompUSA….

Jerry, I heard the same thing. Since city developers are slowing around with finding a good spot for the store, it’s only right that Best Buy gets a mini apple store until the Magnolia Park store or the downtown (West End) store opens.

iPlace is located on Pelham Rd in Greenville now – they have no Macs for sale in shop and have few if any peripherals (at last check in July 08). The Apple Dept at Best Buy is run by the same guy that ran the CompUSA “store within a store” = at best 6 out of 10.

Apple needs a presence in Greenville. Contact me on my blog and I think a few of us can make it happen. At the moment the Magnolia Park development is on hold and Apple is an uncertain tenant.

iPlace is moving to RiverPlace in the coming months.

Are you the owner or a worker at iPlace?

No, that is what I was told by one of the employees.

They’ve been saying that since their move to “nowheresville” on Pelham – another reason we need a reliable Apple Store in Greenville.

I agree. I’m in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp.

I’ve tried to address several things with the owner of iPlace, It’s the only place I can take stuff to be worked on under warranty any more.

All, the finishing touches are being put on our new RiverPlace retail store this week. If there continues to be any doubt of our sincerity, please drop by RiverPlace and see our new construction and up-fit for yourself. It has taken some time to get it all just the way we wanted it, but I assure everyone, you will not be disappointed. And, yes, I am the owner of iPlace. It will be our privilege to serve Upstate SC’s Mac community with retail sales and service that exceed expectations. We will connect with our customers and community in ways miles above and beyond what Apple corporate stores offer. The excitement begins in a couple of weeks and I sincerely can’t wait to meet you all at iPlace. ~ Patrick

just heard from a very reliable source that apple has secured a building permit for 505 S Main St which is in downtown Greenville. Most likely for opening in Summer/Fall of 09.

Magnolia Park starts construction at the end of this year or beginning of next year. Phase 1 is 100% pre-leased. Phase 1 consists of Rooms To Go and retail next to Woodruff Road. Phase 1 opens fall 2009. Rest of center opens spring 2010.

505 South Main Street is a bridge that goes over the Reedy River Bryan. That can’t be right. Is it a typo?

Magnolia Park is currently unfinanced. Apple is NOT a tenant there or even a planned one. I’ve spoken with the developer several times regarding this.

Bryan – would you mind emailing me your “source” (even if confidential) – I would like to check it out or encourage a lead if I can. I have been in contact with sveral developers who wan to court Apple.

Rus, you would be wrong. Apple is going to Magnolia Park. I know this for a fact. It opens in spring/summer 2010.

Unfinanced? LOL. Apple is slated to open in spring/summer 2010 at Magnolia Park. Please check your facts next time Rus. ;) Construction starts at the end of this year/beginning of next year on the mixed use development.

Magnolia Park is on the planning commission’s agenda for this month. Construction start is end of this year/beginning of next year. Iplace is a new local apple store that has opened downtown at 550 South Main Street. That’s probably what he meant instead of 505 South Main Street. Oh and Apple is going to Magnolia Park. Opening is in 2010.
